The Role
We are looking for the General Manager Retail based in Cape Town who will lead the retail business for the Southern Africa market with full accountability for revenue management (profit and loss) and business management. The General Manager will be responsible for the growth of the business and oversight of all business functions leveraging on leadership skills to achieve strategic business objectives.
AREAS OF RESPONSABILITIES
Business Strategy and Growth:
Own weekly monthly quarterly and annual business performance and collaboration with the Financial Controller report business results and manage the achievement goals.
Develop and implement strategic short term/ long term plans and identify opportunities with action plans.
Supervise and collaborate with multi-functional teams to drive business goals across all channels.
Implement global best practice in the market and create new best practices that can be taken to different markets as global best practices.
View the business from a holistic perspective understand its financial legal commercial and operational leavers and how to optimise profitability.
Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of the business landscape and environment evolutions: key players (i.e. competitors other consumer brands companies key customers) distribution channels and category trends to maximise business opportunities.
Analyse markets and identify business opportunities in line with the overall strategy and ensure the implementation of business development initiatives geared towards a healthy growth of the business and improvement of the Companys competitive position in the Country.
Articulate a compelling vision prioritise resources and opportunities to achieve long-term vision and strategy.
Ensure exceptional services delivered to customers.
People Management:
Build and develop high performing teams in partnership Local/Global HR to align to the organizations growth.
Establish and develop mutually beneficial and trusting business relationships with key internal / external stakeholders through cooperation integrity and with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Manage and develop others in an effective and motivating manner.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Bachelors degree in business and/or economics (preferably masters degree)
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Retail business with at least 8 years in a leadership position in retail (preferably in luxury / fashion retail)
Strong commercial acumen
Proactive engaging and hands-on leadership style
In depth understanding of multiple business functions
Project management competencies with strong analytical skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills
International retail experience (essential)
International profile (preferred)
Desire and ability to relocate internationally in the future (mobile in 2-3 years)
Personal requirements: highly driven problem solver creative reliable and flexible
Office Package (Excel Ppt etc.)
Fluent in English
