Job Duties
Carpentry Technicians work as a member of the larger Facilities Maintenance team and provide a variety of skilled services that support the efficient and effective delivery of JYFs mission. This position will perform a wide variety of skilled carpentry tasks in a timely and professional manner. The position will also support a wide variety of tasks in other skilled trades areas to include plumbing HVAC electrician and other buildings trades. Facilities Technicians perform maintenance requests and all other duties as assigned.
The Facilities department is responsible for the maintenance care and efficient and effective operation of all JYF facilities grounds skilled trades vehicle fleet and the equipment used in the administration of facility operations. JYF facilities comprise three campuses that span 46 acres 29 acres and 21 acres; and over 350000 sq. ft. of building spaces.
This position has been deemed Designated Employee as defined in Policy No. 135 DHRM-Emergency Closings.
Minimum Qualifications
Skilled in the use of electrical and manual tools related to the duties of the position.
Knowledge of carpentry and other skilled trades principles practices and techniques to include demonstrated experience in utilities work.
Demonstrated abilities to: work with a variety of people install fixtures and perform repairs
Effectively communicate orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read technical instructions blueprints and drawings.
Skilled in rough and finish carpentry as well as drywall carpet or other flooring various door repair and replacement.
Understanding of local state and federal building codes.
Ability to work from heights ladders or scaffolding and in confined spaces.
Must be able to lift weights up to 100 lbs.
Valid drivers license required.
Additional Considerations
Experience as licensed carpenter or technical school in carpentry or other trades preferred.
Considerable experience as a carpenter trades helper utilities worker or apprentice in a carpentry or other trades shop. An exhibits fabrication shop may substitute the above requirements.
