Job Description:
The Biology Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in physiology beginning Fall 2026. Applicants with interests in any area related to physiology are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates whose laboratory-based research program focuses on plants algae or nutrition. The candidate must be able to actively incorporate undergraduate students into their research program. Teaching responsibilities may include participation in our team-taught General Biology sequence (specifically General Biology 2) an upper division course in the candidates area of expertise and courses for non-science majors as part of our Magis core curriculum. The teaching load is three undergraduate courses per semester. The candidate will also be expected to be active in service to the department University and professional communities.
Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field by August 2026 show a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and demonstrate the potential to develop an active and sustainable research program with undergraduate research students. The ideal candidate will have post-doctoral experience experience teaching at the undergraduate level evidence of peer-reviewed scholarly accomplishments and an understanding and commitment to educating undergraduate students in the liberal arts tradition a hallmark of Jesuit education.
Additional Information:
The Biology department consists of 24 full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in the Bannow Science Center. The Biology department has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research regular departmental extra-curricular events and guest lectures and a large student interest in the health sciences. The salary and benefits for the position are highly competitive.
