BUILDING ASSISTANT PART-TIME CASUAL WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY
Position Summary
KSACC is recruiting two new team members for a work experience program funded by United Way BC. The WEOG program is a skills building opportunity for folks currently receiving Income Assistance or Persons with Disability supports from the Province of BC. This role will support the smooth running of building operations at KSACCs Kamloops office. This position is in partnership with United Way BC and is designed to provide participants with capacity-building experience in the anti-violence sector. This is a part-time temporary position from October 13th 2025 to March 31st 2026.
Schedule and Compensation
Successful applicants will work 10 hours per week building skills and receiving hands-on job experiences. They will also receive extensive training relevant to the role and the anti-violence sector. Participants will receive a $300 honourarium for each successfully completed week of work experience. Hours are flexible based on participant needs but will primarily be during KSACCs business hours of Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
Key Duties
- Perform daily and weekly cleaning tasks (e.g. sweeping mopping dusting garbage removal sanitizing surfaces)
- Clean and restock washrooms and kitchen areas
- Ensure all shared spaces are clean orderly and welcoming
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs as needed (e.g. light bulb replacement minor furniture repairs)
- Monitor the condition of the building and notify supervisor of larger maintenance needs or safety issues
- Coordinate with external contractors or vendors as required
- Monitor inventory of cleaning office and program supplies
- Order receive and restock supplies in a timely and organized manner
- Ensure supply storage areas are tidy and accessible
- Set up and tidy spaces for events meetings or workshops
- Assist with seasonal tasks (e.g. snow shovelling lawn care window cleaning)
- Support safety protocols including emergency exits and fire safety equipment
- Participate in KSACC all-staff meetings and other agency functions.
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- Currently receiving Income Assistance or PWD.
- Previous experience in janitorial maintenance or facilities support preferred
- Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
- Physical ability to lift supplies and equipment (up to 50 lbs) perform manual tasks and stand for extended periods
- Basic understanding of safe handling and storage of cleaning products
- Commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment aligned with KSACCs values
- An understanding and commitment to client confidentiality
- Comfort and familiarity working in feminist spaces
- This role requires physical activity and exposure to cleaning products
- This position will require a vulnerable sector criminal records check
