DescriptionThe Pharmacy Purchasing Clerk is responsible for the purchase of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies for the department and ensures the availability of pharmaceuticals while maintaining inventory within budgetary requirements; recommends the stocking of items with the potential of reducing costs in materials and personnel time. This position relies heavily on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job and works under close supervision.
Responsibilities- TECHNICAL TASKS
- Maintains adequate stock levels of inventory for the efficient operation of the department.
- Removes expired deteriorated recalled or unusable items preparing them for return for credit to the appropriate vendor.
- Assists in the filling of inpatient medication orders if the situation deems this necessary.
- Prepares end of the month reports needed by the director in a timely and accurate manner.
- Assists in maintaining current pricing information in the hospital charge master and the wholesaler computer with timely updates.
- Prepares for and helps with the annual inventory to ensure an accurate count.
- Completes all internal departmental billing and maintains the loan and borrow records of the pharmacy.
- Receives and verifies receipt of all merchandise and resolves problems if any with shipments arriving the same day if possible.
- Distributes in equitable fashion all merchandise received between the areas they are needed.
- Accurately processes all paperwork associated with the purchasing function.
- Maintains work area in a neat orderly and efficient manner at all times.
- Always maintains a professional and courteous manner while answering the phone and dealing with representatives and staff.
- Consistently brings priority items to the directors and staffs attention.
- Maintains consistently accurate timekeeping for the hospitals payroll system if the director is unable to do so.

- Carefully coordinates daily tasks and priorities work to maximize the efficiency of the department.
- Demonstrates consistent attention to detail and accuracy in job performance and in imparting information to new and existing employees such as backordered items shorted item and recalls.

QualificationsExperience: Hospital pharmacy experience
Education: High School Diploma
License/Cert: Louisiana Board of Pharmacy Technician Certificate; PHT
