Description

The Pharmacy Purchasing Clerk is responsible for the purchase of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies for the department and ensures the availability of pharmaceuticals while maintaining inventory within budgetary requirements; recommends the stocking of items with the potential of reducing costs in materials and personnel time. This position relies heavily on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job and works under close supervision.



Responsibilities
  1. TECHNICAL TASKS
    1. Maintains adequate stock levels of inventory for the efficient operation of the department.
    2. Removes expired deteriorated recalled or unusable items preparing them for return for credit to the appropriate vendor.
    3. Assists in the filling of inpatient medication orders if the situation deems this necessary.
    4. Prepares end of the month reports needed by the director in a timely and accurate manner.
    5. Assists in maintaining current pricing information in the hospital charge master and the wholesaler computer with timely updates.
    6. Prepares for and helps with the annual inventory to ensure an accurate count.
    7. Completes all internal departmental billing and maintains the loan and borrow records of the pharmacy.
    8. Receives and verifies receipt of all merchandise and resolves problems if any with shipments arriving the same day if possible.
    9. Distributes in equitable fashion all merchandise received between the areas they are needed.
    10. Accurately processes all paperwork associated with the purchasing function.
    11. Maintains work area in a neat orderly and efficient manner at all times.
    12. Always maintains a professional and courteous manner while answering the phone and dealing with representatives and staff.
    13. Consistently brings priority items to the directors and staffs attention.
    14. Maintains consistently accurate timekeeping for the hospitals payroll system if the director is unable to do so.
  2. CRITICAL THINKING
    1. Carefully coordinates daily tasks and priorities work to maximize the efficiency of the department.
    2. Demonstrates consistent attention to detail and accuracy in job performance and in imparting information to new and existing employees such as backordered items shorted item and recalls.
    3. Consistently demonstrates the ability to assess a situation consider the alternatives and properly choose an appropriate course of action.
    4. Consults with the Director in matters of uncertainty.
    5. Demonstrates a consistent level of performance and maintains progress on special projects according to schedules agreed upon at their initiation.
    6. Consistently reports any problems with the normal workflow and possible solutions to the pharmacy director.
    7. Successfully participates in the problem-solving process as related to inter- and intradepartmental activities.
    8. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with different people taking into consideration the special needs their age pose.
  3. INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS
    1. Follows institutional guidelines for patients rights.
    2. Communicates and works with others to ensure safe and effective service.
    3. Expeditiously resolves any communication deficits with other health care professionals and co-workers.
  4. Other duties
    1. Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values Service and Quality.


Qualifications

Experience: Hospital pharmacy experience

Education: High School Diploma

License/Cert: Louisiana Board of Pharmacy Technician Certificate; PHT
