About this position:
The Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind is seeking a School Security Corporal.

The days and hours for this position are Monday Thursday 9pm 7am with other hours as needed for work purposes/coverage.

This is a classified 12 month position with state benefits including health insurance retirement life insurance and disability coverage.

The Security Officer II at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind (VSDB) is to provide a safe and secure campus for students employees and visitors to VSDB. To help support campus fire safety prevention and training programs. To ensure adequate safety and security coverage as requested by supervisor.

The Security Officer II at VSDB is to provide a secure and safe campus/facilities for the VSDB employees students and visitors.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of the principles and practices of security.

Knowledge of fire and safety regulations and related equipment.

Ability to interpret and apply safety and security regulations and react appropriately in emergency situations.

Knowledge of records management procedures sufficient to prepare and maintain records.

Ability to train others in security and safety related areas.

Proficiency level of Survival in American Sign Language as measured by the Sign Language Proficiency Scale or agreement to acquire the specific level within three years.

Physical requirements:

Ability to lift 50 pounds perform repetitive motion to include standing sitting reaching lifting walking bending and climbing and tolerate various chemicals and weather conditions.

Ability to perform and document Life safety Inspections and Testing

Additional Considerations

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
Certification as a School Security Officer from Department of Criminal Justice Services.
Candidates who do not hold this certification must meet the criteria for certification including a minimumage requirement of 21 years and be willing to complete a DCJS approved course within 90 days ofemployment.
Certification in the National Incident Management System (NIMS) to levels required by the CrisisManagement Plan. Candidates who do not hold this certification must satisfy this requirement within 180days of employment.
Valid drivers license at the time of appointment (applicants with six demerits or more are ineligible).
Possess a current certification in First Aid and CPR or agree to obtain certification within one year.
