Position: Painter
Job Description: The incumbent will be responsible to perform work in the painting of interior and exterior surfaces by brush roller and spray painting including the painting of buildings structures and equipment. To prepare paint and stains for painting and other manual duties related to painting. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. To perform skilled work in the application of paint varnish stain enamel or lacquer on interior or exterior surfaces and fixtures of buildings structures vehicles equipment and other surfaces.
2. To prepare surfaces for painting by washing sanding smoothing and removing old paint filling cracks or holes with putty plaster or other proper and other fillers.
3. Must know the procedure for or be able to mix blend and prepare paints for proper color match.
4. Erect staging and scaffolding for painting and to perform other manual duties required to painting.
5. Familiar with the use of lifts and or bucket type lifts.
6. Able to work independently and exercise good judgement in completing projects and tasks.
7. Follows safety protocols at all times and handles work area and materials appropriately.
Required Qualifications:
1. Must be an experienced painter with a minimum of five years of service / experience.
2. Must have experience mixing and preparing paints and other wall finishes essential to good sound painting procedures.
3. Must have a working knowledge of preparing surfaces which is essential to the proper application of paints and related wall finishes.
4. Must be capable of repairing surfaces by filling cracks and holes with putty and filler prior to the application of wall finishes.
5. Must understand and be able to use different types of applicators necessary and appropriate for the project of the painter.
6. Must have knowledge of lifts staging and scaffolds their set up and disassembly prior to and at the conclusion of each job where necessary.
7. Must have the ability to determine the proper material and quantity necessary to perform his work.
8. Must have the ability and responsibility to perform other manual duties related to painting.
9. Manage job requirements with physical mobility to move from place to place (walking standing stooping pushing pulling kneeling crawling turning reaching climbing balancing) and ability to lift 25 pounds.
10. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year round as required.
11. Must be able to work in various environments with potential interruptions
The Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification. If the Superintendent intends to waive a qualification such intent will be shared with the Fall River School Committee.

Supervises: N/A
Terms of Employment: In accordance with the employment contract between the Fall River School Committee and the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees; AFL-CIO; Council 93 Local 1118 Maintenance Employees
