Job Summary

POSITION: Title I Academic Coach
LOCATION: North Middle School
REPORTS TO: School Administrator/Federal Programs Director
SALARY: According to Berkeley County Schools Teacher Salary Scale with verified years of experience and degree levelwith Coordinator index.
TERM: 210 Days (This is a grant funded position and is not guaranteed beyond the 25-26SY.)
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
The School Academic Coach supports the professional growth of teachers and enhances student learning outcomes by providing ongoing instructional support. This role involves analyzing student data modeling effective teaching strategies and offering professional development to improve instructional practices across grade levels and content areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • WV Teacher Certification in any field of study.
  • Masters Degreein related educational fieldor National Board Certification.
  • Minimum five years successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge associated with strategies and best practices to support Science of Reading instruction effective best practices for math instruction both formative and summative assessment practices
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of West Virginia College and Career Readiness Standards for assigned programmatic level
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated presentation skills for conducting professional learning
  • Background in developing curriculum instruction and assessments
  • Knowledge of West Virginia Professional Teaching Standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of the analysis of performance and assessment data including West Virginia General Summative Assessments iReady benchmark data and other formative and summative assessments to facilitate meaningful interpretation and decision making to impact teaching and learning.
GENERAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct regular classroom visits.
  • Model best instructional practices.
  • Conduct regular team meetings with agendas centered around data best instructional practices and district initiatives.
  • Analyze benchmark progress monitoring and summative assessment data with teachers.
  • Analyze achievement deficits and gaps and create a plan to fill gaps through professional development instructional modeling and classroom accountability measures.
  • Set goals based on achievement results and monitor and self-reflect on the effectiveness of coaching practices.
  • Maintain confidentiality adhering to FERPA
  • Willingness to participate in professional learning opportunities that may arise may include travel
  • Willingness to work on planning as needed outside contractual time-daily rate provided for additional days in the summer as determined with extra duty contract
  • Other duties as assigned
COACHING PRACTICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Professional Learning & Development:
    • Plan coordinate and deliver high-quality professional development sessions for teachers based on identified needs.
    • Facilitate workshops training sessions and collaborative planning meetings focused on instructional improvement and student achievement.
  • Data Analysis & Instructional Planning:
    • Collect analyze and interpret student performance data to identify trends gaps and instructional needs.
    • Use data to guide instructional decisions and provide targeted recommendations to teachers and leadership teams.
  • Instructional Coaching & Support:
    • Provide job-embedded coaching through classroom observations feedback sessions and co-teaching or modeling lessons.
    • Collaborate with teachers to develop and refine lesson plans assessments and instructional strategies.
  • Modeling Effective Practices:
    • Demonstrate evidence-based teaching strategies and classroom management techniques aligned with curriculum standards.
    • Support the implementation of best practices in instruction differentiation and formative assessment.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work closely with school leadership instructional teams and curriculum coordinators to align coaching with district and school goals.
    • Serve as a resource for current educational research instructional tools and curriculum materials.
COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE:
  • Partner with the principal to build a culture for coaching.
  • Build trusting respectful and professional relationships with teachers.
  • Engage in reflective dialogue with others.
  • Maintain a friendly flexible and collaborative disposition.
  • Work with teams of teachers to unpack curricular units as needed
