Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Foot Care Focus (Part-Time flexible schedule)
Mission
Reporting to the Director of Care (DOC) the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) Foot Care Focus is responsible for providing planned patient-oriented goal-directed nursing care in accordance with provincial standards of practice.
This role maintains all the responsibilities of an RPN while applying specialized training in advanced/diabetic foot care to support resident mobility comfort and overall health.
Key Responsibilities Foot Care Focus
- Conduct comprehensive foot assessments to identify risks such as impaired circulation skin integrity concerns or nail/foot conditions.
- Provide professional foot care including safe trimming filing and treatment of corns calluses and ingrown toenails.
- Develop and implement individualized resident foot care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Educate residents families and staff on foot health footwear and preventative practices.
- Refer residents to chiropody podiatry or primary care when advanced intervention is required.
- Document all assessments and treatments in accordance with regulatory and organizational policies.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse in the applicable Province/State.
- Completion of an Advanced/Diabetic Foot Care Nurse program from a recognized educational provider.
- Experience in a seniors care environment and with unregulated care providers preferred.
- Education/experience in gerontology rehabilitation community complex or long-term care is an asset.
- Strong written and oral communication critical thinking care coordination time management and customer service skills.
- Demonstrated sound clinical knowledge.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and First Aid certification required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS).
