Job Description Summary:

The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the supervision of Dr. Liang Zheng in the KUMC Pathology Department engaging in cutting-edge research on the molecular mechanisms underlying thrombosis and hemostasis with the broader goal of understanding how dysregulation in these processes contributes to complex cardiovascular and hematologic addition there are multiple outstanding clinicians faculty and research staff in the department and across the institution with whom the postdoctoral associate may collaborate.

Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career. A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia participate in the Universitys Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD DVM PsyD PharmD etc.) and candidates should have strong English skills and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan multi-task and complete projects. Ideally the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments analyze data write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications and supervise graduate students.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

Research Overview:

  • Conduct research related to thrombosis and hemostasis analyze data and interpret experimental results.

  • Prepare manuscripts for publishing in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Present research findings at conferences and scientific meetings.

  • Collaborate with fellow lab members including graduate students and technicians to achieve research objectives. Share expertise and contribute to a collaborative and dynamic research environment.

Expectations: The Postdoc will be expected to complete research projects under the guidance of the faculty mentor record and interpret the results of their experiments in an (electronic) laboratory notebook prepare publication-quality manuscripts (including figures and tables) and publish in peer-reviewed literature.

  • Read literature articles develop new ideas and assimilate the information into his/her project design/interpretation.

  • Dissemination of studies: Interact on a regular basis with their faculty mentor and members of the laboratory to discuss experimental design and interpretation of results.

  • Present research aims and findings at department seminars and at scientific meetings. Write and publish their results as first author in abstracts manuscripts and posters.

  • Submit fellowship applications as eligible to bolster research funding and CV building for projects.

Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department of Pathology understand and follow all assigned duties and attend regularly scheduled research team meetings.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Molecular Biology Biochemistry Biomedical Sciences or a related field.

This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices enhances collaboration with external partners and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market-driven expectations.

Work Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in molecular biology techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience:

  • Proficiency in working with rodent or zebrafish models.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to education experience and training qualifications relative to the requirements of the position and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
