Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) a member of the Texas A&M University System welcomes applicants for a tenure-track or tenured Associate Professor of Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) to begin Fall 2026.
TAMIU is a Hispanic Serving Institution with over 8000 students located in Laredo Texas a vibrant and bicultural city with a population of about 250000. The university advances knowledge through research and discovery teaching and learning community engagement and public service and with an intentional focus on student success and research excellence. For more information please visit duties will include leading the launch of the new Civil Engineering program and establishing state-of-the-art laboratories in areas such as construction materials foundations and structural analysis. They also encompass developing a robust externally funded research program enhancing the Schools research profile and fostering collaborations with industry government and interdisciplinary teams. Primary duties further extend to contributing meaningful service to the School College and University mentoring junior faculty guiding student research and positioning the laboratories as a regional hub for industry-relevant innovation. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs in Systems Computer and Petroleum Engineering and will launch a multidisciplinary MS in Systems Engineering in Fall 2026. Faculty numbers have seen remarkable growth alongside thriving enrollment and program expansion.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline. Candidates must demonstrate research excellence teaching effectiveness and leadership in establishing laboratory facilities. Experience in mentoring faculty and guiding programmatic initiatives in structural engineering and lab-based education is required. We strongly encourage candidates with demonstrated expertise in one or more structural engineering subfields such as reinforced concrete steel foundations construction materials or structural analysis. The ability to lead lab development manage hands-on experimental programs and engage with industry and cutting-edge research initiatives is essential. For consideration for a tenured appointment candidates must already hold tenure at their current institution and possess a record of sustained research productivity with significant peer-reviewed publications a history of securing external funding a record of excellence in teaching and mentorship and evidence of professional service and leadership commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor. Tenure is granted only by the affirmative action of the Texas A&M System Board of Regents upon recommendation of the university president after he receives letters of recommendation from the tenured faculty of the college the college dean and the provost. For consideration for a tenure-track appointment candidates must demonstrate strong research productivity the ability to secure external funding excellence in teaching and mentorship and evidence of professional service and leadership consistent with the expectations for an Associate Professor.
