Position Overview
Vance County High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Horticulture Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) department. The ideal candidate will inspire students to explore the science and practice of horticulture while equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in postsecondary education careers and entrepreneurship. This teacher will play a critical role in supporting our agricultural education pathway and engaging students in hands-on learning through greenhouse management landscaping projects and community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Provide engaging instruction in horticulture plant science greenhouse management and related fields aligned with North Carolina CTE curriculum standards.
Develop lesson plans that integrate classroom theory with hands-on experiences in the schools greenhouse gardens and outdoor learning environments.
Maintain and manage greenhouse facilities equipment tools and plant inventory.
Supervise students in hands-on projects such as planting propagation landscape design and agricultural science experiments.
Integrate technology sustainability practices and industry standards into instruction.
Collaborate with colleagues industry partners and the community to enhance learning opportunities and career readiness.
Encourage student participation in FFA (Future Farmers of America) and other leadership development opportunities.
Assess student progress provide feedback and maintain accurate records.
Ensure compliance with all local state and federal regulations regarding safety and agriculture.
Support the schools mission by fostering a positive inclusive and student-centered learning environment.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Agriculture Horticulture Plant Science Agricultural Education or a related field (Masters preferred).
North Carolina teaching license in Agricultural Education (or eligibility to obtain).
Experience in horticulture greenhouse management or related agricultural fields preferred.
Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
Ability to integrate real-world applications and hands-on experiences into lessons.
Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills.

Dedication to preparing students for industry certifications and postsecondary opportunities.
Flexibility to work with community organizations local businesses and higher education partners to expand student opportunities.

Full-time 12-month position.
Primarily based on the Vance County High School campus with occasional off-site field trips and community events.
