Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for overseeing the financial strategy planning and stewardship of Wu Yee Childrens Services. The CFO ensures that the agencys financial infrastructure is sound transparent and aligned with long-term organizational sustainability. This role oversees accounting financial reporting budgeting forecasting compliance audits and financial risk management. The CFO partners closely with the CEO Board of Directors and senior leadership to guide high-level financial decision-making and ensure alignment between financial resources and programmatic goals.

This is not a Remote position. Wu Yee is not able to provide any Visa sponsorship.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Serve as the organizations top financial strategist developing multi-year financial plans and advising the CEO and Board on fiscal policy sustainability and organizational risk.
  • Partner with program and development leaders to align resources with strategic initiatives and long-term planning.
  • Lead the creation of a finance-forward culture that supports mission-driven decision-making innovation and operational efficiency.

Financial Management & Planning

  • Oversee the development monitoring and reporting of organizational and departmental budgets; work with department leaders to ensure fiscal responsibility and cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide timely reports to the CEO Board and senior leaders including analysis of key variances trends and implications.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow forecasts and oversee cash and investment management strategies in coordination with external advisors and banking partners.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting internal controls and recordkeeping in compliance with GAAP and nonprofit best practices.

Compliance & Risk Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all legal regulatory and contractual financial requirements including funder-specific reporting and audit obligations.
  • Lead preparation and execution of annual independent audits; support the Boards Audit Committee throughout the audit cycle.
  • Ensure organizational compliance with IRS California nonprofit laws and grant-specific financial conditions.
  • Oversee all required federal state and local financial filings and reports including tax returns and financial statements.

Grants Contracts & Fund Development Support

  • Partner with Development and Program teams to prepare proposal budgets track grant-related expenditures and ensure accurate and timely funder reporting.
  • Monitor all grant and contract financial performance and proactively identify and resolve compliance or funding issues.
  • Support agency efforts to secure new funding by providing financial analyses and scenario modeling for grants contracts and philanthropic partnerships.

Board & Executive Leadership Support

  • Serve as primary staff liaison to the Finance & Budget Committee and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Provide regular financial reports forecasts and strategic recommendations to the CEO and Board.
  • Contribute to agency-wide initiatives representing the financial perspective in cross-functional planning.

Child Care Subsidy Financial Oversight

  • Oversee financial elements of the Child Care Subsidy program including caseload tracking payment reporting budget projections and communication with the City & County of San Francisco (CCSF) and Human Services Agency (HSA).
  • Ensure funding utilization is maximized while remaining in compliance with all public and private agreements.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Finance Accounting Business Administration or related field required.
  • CPA MBA or a related graduate degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 10 years in a senior financial leadership role in a complex multi-service nonprofit government agency or philanthropic organization.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing multimillion-dollar budgets and financial systems.
  • Experience managing grant- and contract-funded programs including compliance with local state and federal funding requirements.
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors including participation in Finance and/or Audit Committees.

Knowledge Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit financial regulations GAAP standards audit processes and IRS compliance.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Skilled in financial forecasting modeling and data-driven decision-making.
  • Effective communicator with ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills; able to lead teams build consensus and influence cross-functional collaboration.
  • Commitment to Wu Yees mission and values including equity access and support for families and children.
  • Proficient in enterprise accounting software (NetSuite) and Microsoft Office/Google Suite (Sheets/Excel Word PowerPoint).

Physical Requirements:

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
  • Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds
