Job Description

Position Summary

Continued employment is contingent upon funding.
This position is not tenure eligible.

Provide competent classroom instruction in the area of Adult Education specifically reading mathematics and English. The teacher will adhere to the general faculty guidelines as specified by the Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Alabama Community College System policies.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule D-3: $31289 $52194 (9 months)

An additional summer assignment may be available: $10430 $17397 (3 months)

(Salary within this range is determined by your documented years of full-time related work experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional departmental and individual criteria.
  2. Administer assessment instruments to diagnose evaluate and place adult learners in the proper educational functioning level for literacy level instruction through GED instruction.
  3. Link instruction to the learners academic needs as determined by the results of a valid reliable assessment and re-assessment for literacy level instruction through GED instruction.
  4. Administer WorkKeys for the Career Readiness Certificate.
  5. Collect maintain and submit accurate class records including attendance contact hours and progress reports to appropriate offices.
  6. Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested.
  7. Participate in scheduled in-service activities.
  8. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  9. Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work. Maintain assigned office hours.
  10. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge improving teaching skills and updating professional competencies.
  11. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses industries and agencies.
  12. Perform all duties with professionalism.
  13. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the Adult Education program.
  14. Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  15. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog Personnel Handbook and State Board Policy Manual; and in accordance with the Adult Education State Plan and follow such policies and procedures.
  16. Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  1. A minimum of a Bachelors degree in education from an accredited institution is required.
  2. A minimum of one (1) year teaching experience in Adult Education at an institution is required.
  3. Documented evidence in the proficiency of use of internet e-mail and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word PowerPoint etc.) is required.
  1. Effective oral and written communication skills;
  2. Proficiency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom and willingness to develop and teach web-based courses;
  3. Competency in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom;
  4. Knowledge of GED test requirements;
  5. Broad knowledge of English including grammar writing and literature; mathematics including fractions percent measurement algebra and geometry; reading instruction including vocabulary fluency and comprehension;
  6. Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  7. Ability to deal effectively with students other employees and the public;
  8. Commitment to all students including those of diverse ages cultures and ethnic backgrounds;
  9. Ability to conduct individual and small group instruction;
  10. Successful problem solving skills;
  11. Conscientious- wanting to care about how work is done and wanting to do a good job;
  12. Initiative- responding to downtime by taking responsibility to do other work;
  13. A focus on details;
  14. A focus on being friendly and patient in responding to students;
  15. Willingness and desire to learn new things and apply that learning;
  16. Willingness to maintain flexibility in order to meet student needs;
  17. A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand;
