Bellingen Shire Council is looking for a Works Assistant to support our Parks and Gardens teams. This hands-on role involves undertaking a variety of labouring tasks and operating small to medium plant to assist with the construction repair and maintenance of Councils parks gardens and infrastructure. This is a practical outdoor role where safety efficiency and teamwork are essential.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Works Supervisor or Gang Supervisor as allocated you will be responsible for performing operational duties in a safe and efficient manner. Key responsibilities include undertaking general work in accordance with Safe Work Method Statements maintaining work sites in a safe and clean state undertaking traffic control when required operating and maintaining small to medium plant safely and completing relevant documentation such as logbooks timesheets and Councils Reflect system entries. You may also be required to respond to emergencies including participating in an on-call roster for after-hours weekend or public holiday work.
The ideal candidate will have experience in construction maintenance or horticultural activities relevant to Council operations. Qualifications such as a Certificate III in Civil Construction or related field are desirable. Required licences and tickets include a current NSW Class MR Driver Licence and a White Card. Desirable qualifications include Traffic Control Work Training First Aid Chainsaw Operation and Certificates for working near power lines. Experience with small and medium plant hand and power tools and asset management systems is highly regarded.
To succeed in this role you will need strong teamwork adaptability and attention to detail. Literacy and numeracy skills are required to complete job documentation accurately. You will need the ability to inspect and maintain plant and equipment follow procedures to suit different work situations and ensure all tasks are completed safely and efficiently to meet Council standards.
