The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. The YRDSB implemented Working From Home Guidelines to facilitate this work option.

In compliance with Board policies and procedures responsible to provide an overview analysis and reporting of accommodation issues including new residential development across the Boards jurisdiction.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To maintain analyze and review geospatial data and tabular databases that track enrolment trends and residential development including preparing and presenting findings related to student accommodation.
  • To conduct site visits for operating schools including reviewing room usage or site operations; conduct site visits for proposed school sites including reviewing condition of the site.
  • To track development phasing through real estate sales building permits plans of subdivision and condominium official Plan Amendments zoning amendments secondary plans and conducting site visits to areas of new development.
  • To prepare and analyze macro and micro level pupil yields including confirmation or update to student yield prospects based on development activities as well as a review of co-terminous school board information.
  • To participate in the elementary and secondary school boundary process including analysis of boundary options; preparing reports and attendance boundary maps; presenting proposed boundary changes to school communities Trustees and Superintendents of Education.
  • To assist in the development of the Boards annual Capital Strategy and development of accommodation strategies including work involving producing enrolment projections.
  • To provide background data for testimony at the Land Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) including preparing an issue list witness statements and other required material
  • To review and evaluate municipal circulations in order to provide comments and also ensure consistency with Board policies and procedures.
  • To research examine and evaluate other school boards student accommodation information and school designs including gathering information from other school boards architects and planning consultants.
  • To work with landowners and developers on issues related to existing and proposed school sites and involve appropriate Board staff.
  • To participate in committee Board and external stakeholder meetings including preparing reports and presentations as required.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible to the Manager Accommodation Planning.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A four year university degree in urban and/or regional planning or a related discipline is required or equivalent as approved by the Board.
  • Minimum three years in planning or related experience is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication interpersonal and strong analytical/research and computer skills including GIS and web based software applications are required.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of individuals and groups both within and outside the Board is required.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario Drivers License and have access to own transportation.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:

LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.

CUPE 1734 applicants will be considered to have the required educational qualifications based on the job description for the CUPE 1734 classification they currently hold on a permanent basis in accordance with the terms of the CUPE 1734 Collective Agreement.

LA.7.4 Those transferred to positions not covered by this Agreement will retain their seniority accumulated in the bargaining unit for a period of twelve (12) months or up to twenty-four (24) months by mutual agreement of the parties and if transferred back into the bargaining unit within the agreed upon period they shall be credited with all previously accumulated seniority within CUPE 1734 provided that no bargaining unit employee who has completed his/her probationary period shall be displaced as a result of such transfer. Parties may jointly agree to extend past the 24 months upon mutual agreement between the Board the Union and the Employee.

As a condition of employment an d in accordance with the Education Act anyone seeking employment or wanting to volunteer must provide a satisfactory police record check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in the jurisdiction in which you reside this is based on your home address (only accepted by police services within Canada); must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six (6) months prior to the scheduled start date. It is the candidates responsibility to provide the results to the Board upon instruction.

We will accept satisfactory PVSCs that name any other school board and other employers (daycare centers OCT and employers that would require a police check for vulnerable persons) in Ontario and obtained within the last six (6) months.
