Building Code Inspector I
High school and five (5) years of experience in inspection or the construction trades. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Perform on-site construction inspections to ensure compliance with adopted codes approved plans and specifications
Perform in-depth safety plan reviews for all new construction and renovation projects for facilities associated with UF
Prepare written reports approving or rejecting construction plans in accordance with the adopted codes
Record inspection results and plan review comments in permit tracking software 5% - Approve installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes 5% - Operate UF/state vehicle(s) to and from inspection sites
Make decisions as to code interpretations in area of expertise
Represent the department in area of expertise to various groups such as architects and/or engineers contractors or subcontractors
Other duties as assigned
Eligible for certifications by the Department of Professional Regulations as an electrical inspector building code administrator mechanical or plumbing inspector.
Prefer certification as electrical mechanical or plumbing plans reviewer.
Employee must complete certification within a year of employment.
Prefer certification in multiple disciplines.
This position receives daily inspection and plan review assignments.
This position requires a person that can work independently in the field and office with little outside supervision.
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:
8 AM 5 PM or 7 AM - 4 PM Monday - Friday
Commensurate with education and experience

Bachelors Degree in Building Construction with minimum 5 years construction experience. Knowledge of standard building mechanical plumbing and/or electrical codes.
Knowledge of current construction procedures and methods. Knowledge of proper building inspection procedures.
Knowledge of State Statutes and Regulations as they apply to construction related projects.
A minimum of 5 years construction experience in each field of experience for which they are certified inspectors and plan reviewer.
Ability to read building construction documents and floor plans. Ability to read and understand construction specifications.
Ability to take accurate measurements.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner. Ability to plan organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
