How will you make an impact in this role

The Credit and Fraud Risk team is seeking an Analyst with a primary focus on New Accounts Underwriting. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to drive improvements within American Expresss Consumer and Commercial card underwriting strategies enabling profitable growth and providing an outstanding onboarding experience.

You will be exposed to stimulating challenges and opportunities to drive impactful change in an environment focused on innovation within a high growth market and region for American Express.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Collaborate on the design development implementation and monitoring of novel risk strategies and initiatives for the Japan portfolio to profitably grow the business.
  • Find new data sources and maximize use of existing data sources to improve model and strategy performance.
  • Develop strong relationships with colleagues from the Central Risk Management organization as well as Operations Product Marketing Acquisitions and external partners to drive enterprise wise successes for the market developing a holistic understanding of the enterprise.
  • Closely monitor key credit performance metrics and the implications on trends diagnosing problems and identifying opportunities.
  • Support acquisitions product and marketing partners on growth initiatives.
  • Deeply understand the market landscape and competitor practices.
  • Develop expert knowledge of American Express systems andinfrastructure and leverage this knowledge to define solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence diverse audiences in a cross-functional team environment
  • A passion for solving problems with data technicalknow-how and strong attention to detail
  • Experience as a self-starter with ability to analyze data and derive meaningful insights to affect business outcomes
  • Ability to drive change by quickly learning from the customer experience market environment regulatory context and operations
  • Experience with statistical programming languagee.g. SAS SQL R Python or willingness and ability to become proficient
  • Proficiency in Japanese and English
  • Bachelors degree
