Do you have a passion for cutting-edge technology and precision data collection At the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) were looking for a motivated professional to join our Survey Support Section as a remote sensing this statewide role youll use state-of-the-art terrestrial and aerial survey hardware and software (including Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) scanners Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and thermal sensors) to support projects that improve Michigans roads bridges and environment. This position offers the chance to apply your expertise to a wide range of projects while gaining professional growth opportunities as you research test and advance new survey methods that shape the future of transportation.

In the MDOT Bureau of Development (BOD) you will be part of a team that supports the backbone of Michigans transportation projects. You will directly impact how efficiently projects are delivered across the state. You will also have the opportunity to grow your skills in training technology and performance analysis all while making a difference in the way we connect people communities and the economy through transportation.

As the next remote sensing specialist you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as the recognized resource for coordinating remote sensing activities including acquiring processing and providing design survey deliverables using UAS photogrammetric and LiDAR mapping.
  • Reviewing survey requests to determine the most effective methods and procedures for mapping projects.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment in field operations.
  • Researching testing and developing methods and workflows for technical applications of static and UAS equipment.
  • Reviewing interpreting and disseminating Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) rules and regulations and MDOT Office of Aeronautics policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining UAS hardware and software updates.
  • Performing ongoing remote sensing activities including promoting improving and implementing remote sensing technology in the department.
  • Serving as the BOD liaison to MDOTs Office of Aeronautics and the Michigan Department of Technology Management and Budget (DTMB)s Center for Shared Solutions (CSS).

The Salary listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Land Surveyor 12 position.

Required Education and Experience

Education
Possession of a bachelors degree with a major in surveying.

Experience
Three years of professional experience conducting land surveys equivalent to a LandSurveyor including one year equivalent to a Land Surveyor P11.
