Under general supervision this position performs general technical protective service work in the field of emergency medical services. Reports to a Company Officer assigned to the station.
Provides emergency response basic or advanced life support and a variety of other assigned duties associated with emergency medical services; provides immediate emergency care to ill or injured persons; assesses the patient to determine the extent of the patients condition; renders immediate and appropriate treatment to include but not limited to emergency invasive procedures; and transports patients to appropriate medical facilities.
Provides some mentoring through the preceptor program; provides rescue and assists in performing rescues from hazardous sites such as auto accidents and collapsed buildings; and operates EMS apparatus and equipment.
Performs routine clerical and administrative functions such as preparing reports and completing forms; performs work using computers and appropriate approved software; performs housekeeping duties at assigned station; performs inspections maintenance and minor repairs on apparatus and equipment for emergency medical services.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires a minimum of a High School or General Education Diploma (GED) with 1-2 years of related work experience to include one (1) year of experience in the provision of emergency medical care or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires a comprehensive background investigation to include a local state and federal criminal history check and sex offender registry check.
Requires satisfactory results from a medical evaluation and pre-employment substance abuse testing and is subject to random controlled substance testing.
A valid Virginias drivers license with an acceptable driving record with no more than 3 negative points on current driving record.
Requires completion of the Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic program and National Registry Test to include Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Prehospital Trauma Life Support & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Certifications must be maintained for continued employment.
