JOB DESCRIPTION: To assist in the identification testing and monitoring of ELA students at each school.
QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of study at an institution of higher education as evidenced by four semesters of college with 12 or more credits per semester; or an associates (or higher) degree; or high school diploma or equivalent including successfully passing an academic assessment in the areas of reading writing and mathematics. The ability to communicate fluently in English both orally and in written form is required. This position requires successfully passing an oral and written fluency in English proficiency assessment. Bilingual skills are desirable. Paraprofessionals who have not yet attained Highly Qualified Status at the time of employment will be placed on the Professional Development Plan until documentation of Highly Qualified status is provided to the District. The employee must complete requirements within the first year of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the ELA teacher at each school in working with limited-English proficient students in English.
- Site-based assistants will assist the ELA teacher with testing and documentation. Traveling assistants will visit each school based on need to assist with ELA testing and documentation.
- Assist and communicate with the ELA teacher at each school in working with limited-English proficient students in English on a regular basis.
- Assist in the maintenance of English Language Learners (ELLs) student files and individual student records.
- Participate in ongoing professional development in the area of ELA recordkeeping and testing procedures.
- Assist in supervising students in the classroom lunchroom and playground under the supervision of a District certificated staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SALARY: Nine-month position beginning salary Level 26 employee benefits in accordance with Board Policies.
EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy on the evaluation of support personnel.
