Job Summary

SUMMARY:To provide each student with food of high nutritional quality in an atmosphere of cleanliness cheerfulness and personal caring. To implement and comply with all federal state and local requirements related to food service with a commitment to the goals and visions of the AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar related or a logical assignment to the Service:*Establishes quality standards for the presentation and timely service of food*Implements a district-wide customer service-driven philosophy that focuses on value and customer satisfaction*Implements strategies to create an atmosphere that will attract and retain customers*Reviews current research information to determine health and nutrition-related trends and foodservice management developments and develops innovative program changes and expansions based on this informationSafety and Sanitation:*Establishes procedures to ensure that food is prepared and served in a sanitary and safe environment*Visits and inspects all kitchen and cafeteria facilities and operations regularly to ensure that high standards of diet cleanliness health and safety are being maintained and identifies possible improvements in operationsNutrition and Menu Planning:*Develops cost-effective menus that maintain nutrition integrity and meet all local state and federal guidelines and regulations*Works with school staff teachers nurses and parents to plan menus for students with special nutrition needs*Solicits and utilizes feedback from students to help inform meal selections*Implements menus and provides related nutrition information online*Supervises the preparation and serving of meals at all schools in accordance with standards and recommendations as published through the Department of Education State and USDA*Supervises the planning and preparation of any special meals required for district-sponsored eventsFood Production:*Makes application for government surplus food for school cafeteria use and directs its distribution and transfer**Plans the disposition of government commodities as part of the ongoing food service programNutrition Education:*Collaborates with Health and Physical Education departments to implement a comprehensive nutrition education program using school cafeterias as learning laboratories*Serves as a resource for expertise in the development and presentation of nutrition education materials and activities*Actively participates as a member of the districts wellness committee in the development of wellness goals and implementation of action steps around school nutritionFinancial Management Recordkeeping and Equipment/Environmental Management:*Manages the school nutrition program using appropriate financial management techniques*Prepares and administers the departmental budget and operates within established budgetary guidelines*Implements efficient management techniques to ensure all records and supporting documentation are maintained in accordance with local state and federal laws and policies*Provides monthly financial reports as well as monthly claim and reimbursement information to the Finance Office*Maximize all applications for federal and state subsidies*Generates all food service personnel payrolls*Purchase all foods supplies and equipment in accordance with public procurement laws*Develops purchasing guidelines to ensure purchased food and supplies reflect product knowledge customer preferences district needs policies and nutrition objectives*Maintains an inventory of all foods supplies and equipment and ensures that all storage facilities are maintained in a safe organized fashion*Determines equipment needs and specifications consistent with program needs and budget*Works collaboratively with the Facilities department to implement a schedule of preventive maintenance*Attends conferences workshops and seminars to maintain knowledge of school food service guidelines and procedures and grant Management:*Interviews screens and recommends the appointment of all cafeteria personnel*Assigns directs supervises and evaluates all cafeteria personnel*Provides technical assistance training and professional development opportunities for the districts cafeteria personnel that comply with federal state and local guidelines and regulations Other: Be available to support district operations in response to disaster or emergency situationsAny other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designeeREPORTS TO:Director of Finance and OperationsWORK YEAR:205 DaysCOMPENSATION:As per contract
