Job Summary

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Special Litigation Bureau primarily handles complex investigations and litigation including matters of high sensitivity and potential policy recent years the bureau has devoted significant resources to matters involving the rule of law reproductive rights gun violence prevention and police addition one of the Bureaus primary responsibilities is to investigate and litigate cases involving governmental fraud waste abuse and corruption. The Bureau investigates and pursues civil enforcement actions against public officials employees vendors contractors and others who commit fraud against the state and has a dedicated Ethics Unit to address violations of the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act. The Bureau frequently works with a variety of state and federal agencies and litigates in state and federal courts as well as before the Executive Ethics Commission. The Bureau also provides litigation support to other bureaus in complex matters and participates in legislative review and initiatives.

The Ethics Unit Supervisor will work closely with the Bureau Chief to oversee all State Officials and Employees Ethics Act matters handled by the Special Litigation Bureau. Responsibilities include reviewing analyzing and providing recommendations regarding referrals from the Offices of Executive Inspectors General or the Executive Ethics Commission and leading any resulting litigation overseeing the review of revolving door determinations and handling any resulting appeals or defense of appeals and reviewing and providing recommendations regarding any proposals to amend the Ethics Act or the Executive Ethics Commissions administrative rules. To complete these duties the Ethics Unit Supervisor will supervise other attorneys in the bureau and cultivate effective working relationships with the Offices of Executive Inspectors General and the Executive Ethics Commission. The Ethics Unit supervisor will also maintain a docket of Special Litigation matters outside the Ethics Unit.

Qualifications

Candidates must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois. Candidates must have at least five years of experience as a licensed attorney and possess excellent research and writing skills. Candidates must also be able to work independently interact with a diverse group of colleagues and stakeholders and possess strong analytical communication and organizational skills. Preference will be given to Candidates with a strong demonstrated knowledge of the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act.

Supplemental Information

Salary:Salaries start at $90265 for candidates with the minimum five years of experience as a licensed attorney range up to $107550 based upon additional years of experience as a licensed attorney.
