Clinical Assistant Professor

Job Duties:

Internists with the Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM) provide comprehensive patient centered care for the prevention diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses in a progressive outpatient setting. They are also provided the opportunity to grow the next generation of physicians through hands-on instruction of residents fellows and medical students.

GIM prides itself on a team-based care model in which physicians and Advance Practice Providers (NP/PA) work together to provide empathetic and collaborative primary care. Successful candidates will demonstrate not only their comprehensive clinical knowledge but their ability to build long lasting trusting relationships with patients from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. We seek candidates who are equally compassionate and comprehensive in their care and enthusiastic to teach this approach to groups of dedicated and eager learners.

  • This position is full or part time 50%-100%

  • This position requires work to be completed onsite at a designated campus work location.

  • This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.

  • The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law every four years.

  • Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Clinical Associate Professor Clinical Assistant Professor Associate Professor (CHS) or Assistant Professor (CHS). The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Clinical track duties: Provide comprehensive patient care in the outpatient setting. Duties may include clinical teaching of medical students residents and fellows as well as administrative duties. Individuals may also be called upon to fill clinical needs at UW Health Urgent Care Centers. The preferred candidate will either have experience teaching and working with a diverse population or will welcome a commitment to teaching and working with a diverse population.

  • CHS track duties: Provide comprehensive patient care in the outpatient setting. Duties may include clinical teaching of medical students residents and fellows as well as administrative duties. Individuals may also be called upon to fill clinical needs at UW Health Urgent Care Centers. The preferred candidate will either have experience teaching and working with a diverse population or will welcome a commitment to teaching and working with a diverse population. Participation in research endeavors of the Division expected.

  • The successful candidate will teach medical students residents and fellows. The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Negotiable 12 month

Required Qualifications:

  • Wisconsin Medical Licensure required by the start date.

  • Must be Board Eligible in Internal Medicine by the start date of position. Eligible certifications include American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • For an appointment at Associate Professor rank on CHS Track candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CHS Track.

  • For an appointment at Clinical Associate Professor rank on CT Track candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the CT Track.

Education:

  • MD or DO or equivalent required.
