Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America serving Cook DuPage Will Lake Kane and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe reliable and efficient commuter service.
Metras rail operations are overseen by the Deputy Executive Director Operations who provides executive direction and guidance to the chief officers of the Engineering Mechanical and Transportation departments as well as the Training and Certification and Operations Training departments. The division also provides executive oversight and direction to contract carriers (BNSF and Union Pacific) to ensure that rail operations are consistent with Metras standards and practices.
Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director-Operations the Data Analytics Manager-Operations Projects gathers analyzes and presents data on numerous operations department projects in support of the Deputy Executive Director-Operations and reporting departments.
The primary dutiesinclude:
Analyze large and complex data sets using statistical methods including data modeling; create spreadsheets graphs and charts to illustrate findings; and draft clear and concise management with departments to collect validate and analyze data; structure large data sets; and design tools to track analyze and store and present reports of findings including identifying trends and projections to aid senior leadership and department managers in making informed business and analyze operational issues identify best practices and establish processes and procedures to ensure efficient and effective management Key Performance Indicators to measure the effectiveness of programs and business otherrelated duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Metra is a railroad employer subject to the provisions of the Railroad Retirement Tax Act not the Social Security Administration.
- Bachelors degree in a Business Computer Information Systems or Project Management related field.
- In addition to #1 must have six (6) years of experience that includes project management and data management/analysis
- Considerable knowledge of data collection validation and analysis in decision making.
- Considerable knowledge of data management concepts.
- Good knowledge of data visualization design tools.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to make sound business decisions.
- Strong analytical math organizational and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong report preparation and presentation skills.
- Strong collaborative skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word Excel PowerPoint) with familiarity in SQL Power BI GIS various Adobe products and enterprise asset management systems such as Maximo or Service Max.
- Ability to extract synthesize manage and analyze large amounts of complex data with attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to multi-task and complete projects with competing priorities in a timely manner.
- Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with managers supervisors employees and other stakeholders to gain their cooperation and support in assigned projects/studies.
- Must be available to work flexible hours in the early morning late afternoonevenings or weekends.

- Transportation related experience
