Urban Alchemy is a nonprofit organization founded in 2018. We quickly grew from a small program in San Francisco to a thriving social enterprise with over 1300 staff. We currently operate in California Alabama Oregon and Texas and are actively expanding our national presence with recent growth into Georgia and New Mexico. Position Summary:

The Mental Health Clinician (MHC) will utilize expertise in psychological assessment intervention and treatment planning to provide mental health and addictions services for residents with mental health concerns substance use concerns and co-occurring disorders. The role involves both crisis intervention and structured therapeutic work ensuring services are trauma-informed harm-reduction oriented and rooted in kindness. Clinicians apply evidence-based practices and draw upon lived experience to empathize and communicate with residents experiencing distress from mental illness trauma or substance use.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Position Specific:

  • Collaborate within a residential team to deliver comprehensive mental health treatment onsite
  • Engage with individuals affected by mental health and substance use challenges helping to identify and implement strategies to reduce distress resolve issues and connect to supportive services
  • Offer culturally competent trauma-informed gender-responsive person-centered assessments interventions de-escalation and harm reduction services; arrange referrals to higher levels of care when necessary
  • Assess risks such as suicidality homicidal intent violence grave disability and substance use
  • Gain proficiency with Narcan for opioid overdose reversal
  • Provide individual therapeutic services maintain client records and manage caseloads at 1-2 residential housing sites
  • Coordinate daily programming for residential treatment participants in conjunction with support staff and facilitators
  • Conduct 2-3 weekly therapeutic groups in addition to being available for individual sessions

General:

  • Will treat all Urban Alchemy guests staff and stakeholders with compassion and respect
  • Use emotional intelligence to effectively engage and connect with others
  • Adhere to established procedures to provide a safe working environment including complying with OSHA state and local regulations as well as Urban Alchemys policies
  • Attend orientation and any additional training required by Urban Alchemy or our funders
  • Follow all Urban Alchemys policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor

Position Requirements:

Position Specific:

  • Masters Degree and appropriate state licensing (LPCC LMFT LCSW Licensed Psychologist with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists/Board of Licensed Social Workers/Board of Psychology)
  • Ability to work compassionately and respectfully with diverse populations
  • Equipped to respond effectively to multifaceted challenges including poverty mental health issues substance abuse and homelessness
  • Ability to obtain and maintain background clearance under Urban Alchemy policies
  • Proficiency with laptops or tablets for data entry
  • Eligible in the state of Oregon to supervise pre-licensed clinicians highly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Standing: 3 hours per day
  • Walking: 3 hours per day
  • Sitting: 3-5 hours per day
  • Bending at Waist: less than 2 hours per day
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Occasionally moves within the office to attend meetings or retrieve documents from printers or fax machines
  • Constantly operates a computer and other standard office equipment

Work Environment:

  • Expected to work in all weather conditions
  • Work is typically performed in a standard office setting
  • May involve occasional exposure to moderate noise levels from office equipment and open-plan conversations
