Job Description:

Vulnerable Sector Check: an original copy of a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is less than six (6) months old is required by your start date and the results of the check must be acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. The cost of the VSC is borne by the employee.

Tuberculosis testing: all employees must provide medical proof that they have been tested for TB in the last two (2) years and the results of that testing must be acceptable to The Salvation Army at its sole discretion.

POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Position Purpose summary:

The student and wellness coordinator plays a dual and equally weighted role supporting both student learning experiences and staff well-being in a long-term care environment. This position is responsible for coordinating the planning placement and supervision of students while also developing and delivering staff wellness initiatives that promote mental emotional and physical health. The role requires excellent interpersonal organizational and communication skills and a deep understanding of both educational partnerships and workplace wellness in a healthcare setting.

Accountabilities:

The incumbent may perform all some or similar duties to the listed below:

A. Student Coordination Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with colleges universities and training programs to coordinate placements for nursing (SPEP and PREP programs) PSW allied health and administrative students.
  • Manage onboarding requirements: orientation immunization background checks WSIB and placement agreements.
  • Develop and communicate placement schedules in coordination with department leads.
  • Deliver and coordinate orientation sessions on policies safety protocols resident rights and LTC expectations.
  • Act as a primary contact and mentor for students throughout their placement.
  • Monitor performance conduct check-ins and liaise with academic preceptors and coordinators to address any issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of placements attendance evaluations and compliance with Ministry of LTC requirements.
  • Conduct post placement attendants survey
  • Support outreach through job fairs school visits and partnership events.
  • Assist with updates to student placement policies and internal training tools.
  • Manage and send the students list for PSW incentive and PREP program.

B. Staff Wellness Responsibilities

  • Design and implement evidence-based staff wellness programs focusing on physical health mental well-being stress management and team morale.
  • Plan and lead wellness events campaigns workshops and peer support initiatives.
  • Offer one-on-one confidential support for staff facing burnout emotional distress or return-to-work transitions.
  • Analyze trends such as absenteeism feedback and benefits utilization to guide program planning.
  • Liaise with EAPs community wellness providers and internal committees to expand access to wellness supports.
  • Maintain and update wellness bulletin boards newsletters and digital communications.
  • Ensure wellness programs are inclusive culturally competent and aligned with organizational values.
  • Track participation and evaluate program outcomes to ensure effectiveness and continuous improvement.

CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

Governance Boards and Councils:

Internal: MU/facility leadership and staff members volunteers.

External: Contractors vendors general public agencies.

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Reports directly to: Director of Care
  • Direct reports: None

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • Minimal material responsibility (limited access to confidential information
  • Financial:
    • Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources.
    • May be authorized to handle cash/donations.
    • No input to annual budget or revenue projections.

Working Conditions:

  • Standard office and care environment; occasional movement throughout resident and staff areas
  • Flexibility required for evening or weekend events tied to student placement schedules or wellness programming.
  • May be required to lift/carry up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasional off-site travel to partner institutions or wellness-related events.

Education Experience AND Qualifications:

  • Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required including Child Check (if appropriate).

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Health Sciences Education Social Work Human Resources Psychology or a related field.
  • Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in either student coordination or wellness programming (preferably both) ideally in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
  • Strong understanding of LTC operations resident-centered care and Ministry standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication facilitation and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and discretion.
  • Skilled in organizing events tracking data and using Microsoft Office and other digital tools.
  • Certifications in wellness coaching mental health first aid or related areas are assets.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Advanced level computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word Excel Access PowerPoint Outlook Publisher) and web-based software.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities (i.e. good judgement).
  • Ability to lift/move weights of up to 20 lbs. occasionally.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $52212.65 to $65265.81 with a maximum of $78318.97.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
