Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn a single-configuration heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit geostationary transfer orbit cislunar and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and attention to detail towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origins vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth. As the Senior Director you will lead a team of IPTs in the development of new avionics designs as well as the oversight of existing avionics designs flying on the New Glenn launch vehicle. You will work closely with the Avionics Architect to define the path to reduce avionics cost and weight to an absolute minimum while increasing overall performance.

If you are adept at managing to a plan comfortable responding to evolving requirements or external constraints and prioritizing efforts all the while infusing and facilitating creativity and innovation you will share in the teams impact on all aspects of avionics development!

In this role you will lead an organization whose responsibilities include:

  • Electrical Power Systems including new battery technologies
  • Guidance Navigation and Control Systems including GPS and Inertial solutions
  • RF Telemetry & Receiver Systems
  • Flight Computing Systems including Software to Hardware interface
  • Instrumentation Systems
  • Interface with Supply Chain for avionics

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical electrical or aerospace engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • 20 years proven experience in the design development and flight operations of Avionics Systems & Systems Engineering.
  • Experience leading and managing engineering teams.
  • Experience with fault-tolerance strategies and architectures for safety and mission-critical systems.
  • Proficient in the challenges technologies and historical system solutions endemic to the space environment and have knowledge in several subject areas such as avionics propulsion fluids control systems.
  • Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through field support).
  • Experience developing requirements defining subsystem interfaces (both in-house and between external partners/suppliers) and other systems engineering products and practices.
  • Experience with root cause corrective action and rapid response to flight anomalies.
  • Experience working with U.S. Government research agencies (e.g. NASA USSF DARPA).

Desired:

  • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in mechanical electrical or aerospace engineering or equivalent technical field.
  • Experience with development for space-flight environments.
  • Proven understanding in the use of configuration and data management software (Windchill DOORS DNG).
  • Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
  • Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes.


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $246483.00-$345076.20

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
