Description

This position is open to experienced nurses and new grad nurses.

Location:Gonda 14 Orthopedics

For new grad nurses:All newly graduated Licensed Practical Nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience hired into a scheduled FTE Registered Nurse position on the Rochester campus of Mayo Clinic are automatically enrolled in theNurseResidencyProgram. A separate application or enrollment process is not required. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic regardless of experience will receive an extensive orientation program.

The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects including quality improvement projects.



Qualifications

Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g. some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.

Additional Qualifications:

One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred.

License or Certification:

Current LPN license by applicable state requirements.

Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers-BCLS - certificate of course completion required and must not expire within 3 months after start date. A scanned copy of the certificate of completion or transcripts including your full name must be attached to your profile to be considered.

We will only accept certificates of course completion from the following programs:
American Heart Association (Title: BLS for Healthcare Providers or BLS Provider)
American Red Cross (Title: CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers or BLS for Healthcare Providers)

Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
