Job Summary

Concordia University Chicago (CUC) seeks an inspiring Christian educator to join its English faculty. The specialization is open; candidates who can complement the departments existing strengths in Creative Writing British Literature and American Literature are especially encouraged to apply. Enthusiasm for educating both majors and non-majors at a teaching-focused mission-driven Christian institution is essential. This full-time tenure-track position with an anticipated rank of Assistant or Associate Professor has an anticipated start date of August 2026.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Teach courses at the undergraduate level. The teaching load (typically 12 credit hours per semester) will comprise courses in the general education composition sequence (English Composition and Writing about Literature) upper-level courses in the major and other courses for both general education students and majors with consideration for department needs and the candidates areas of specialization. Candidates with English Education experience and current teacher licensure may be considered for occasional teaching at the graduate level but this would not be required.
  • Integrate a Christian ethos into teaching service and relationships
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment
  • Advise and mentor students in their academic and professional development
  • Maintain an active agenda of scholarship and professional development in English-related fields
  • Participate in service to the university profession church and community
  • Support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago a university of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Skill Sets:

  • Demonstrates robust understanding of curriculum development instructional methods classroom management and assessment
  • Exhibits strong organizational administrative and collaborative skills
  • Shows fluency with educational technology
  • Displays traits of Christian servant leadership and communicates promptly effectively and professionally with all stakeholders
  • Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information

Minimum Experience Required:

  • At least one year of experience teaching English preferably at the college or university level
  • A record of scholarly publication or presentation
  • Evidence of active engagement in service (e.g. professional public community church)

Education Requirements:

  • Terminal degree (e.g. PhD EdD MFA) in English-related field (ABD will be considered for initial appointment at rank of Instructor)
  • Undergraduate certification or colloquy completion as a professional church worker in the LCMS is preferred
