Job Description Summary
Assist in developing and testing a small IoT sensor testbed integrated with the Boston Dynamics SPOT robot to investigate human trust in autonomous systems. This position offers hands-on experience with embedded systems robotics and trusted AI research.
Responsibilities
Configure and program IoT sensor nodes (STM32 or Raspberry Pi) for environmental monitoring. Implement basic communication protocols (e.g. MQTT CoAP) between IoT nodes and gateways. Support integration of IoT alerts with the SPOT robot for anomaly detection and response. Assist with setting up experimental scenarios including participant interaction studies. Collect and analyze experimental data (sensor logs trust surveys). Contribute to documentation research posters and potential publications.
Required Qualifications
Current Chapman undergraduate student in Computer Science Data Analytics Electrical/Computer Engineering or a related discipline. Basic programming skills in C C or Python. Strong interest in robotics ioT or embedded systems. Willingness to learn and work independently with faculty mentorship.
