About the Opportunity:

The College of Professional Studies invites applications for an open-rank non-tenure track faculty position in the Master of Professional Studies in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Northeastern University Campus in Vancouver British Columbia.

The program prepares future leaders in AI with the essential skills to design and implement AI systems offering concentrations in machine learning robotics computer vision energy systems and process engineering. This innovative program combines technical rigor with applied learning opportunities ensuring graduates are well-positioned to drive the development and responsible integration of AI technologies across disciplines.

Faculty in this program have the opportunity to:

Responsibilities:

This full-time non-tenure track faculty member is expected to bring their knowledge and skills to advance the program seeking to serve students by participating in a range of teaching and non-teaching activities that support the advancement of the program. They will teach a full teaching load spread throughout the year and will work with the program office on administrative issues and programmatic projects.

Beyond the classroom faculty members will engage in service at the department college and university levels with responsibilities based on-ground at the Vancouver campus and contributing to the vibrancy of campus life while also pursuing ongoing professional development.

Teaching (60%)

  • Teach courses in Applied AI such as Applied AI and Machine Learning Applied Deep Learning Applied Computer Vision and Applied Natural Language Processing.

  • In conjunction with the Academic Lead develop and implement course learning outcomes curriculum maps resource guides textbooks syllabi templates and updated course materials; including campus-specific coursework as desired.

  • Oversee the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum. Responsibilities include supporting the Academic Lead in the selection of part-time instructors advising on syllabi and evaluating part-time instructor performance.

  • Identify and provide recommendations to keep curriculum relevant and industry leading.

  • Work with the Academic Lead to ensure regional license/accreditation requirements are met.

Teaching and actual course load may vary with other responsibilities which include but are not limited to:

Program & Campus Support (10%)

In consultation with the Academic Lead:

  • Student Recruitment and Program Representation

    • Leverage professional networks and create local events to increase program college & University brand.

    • Create and provide oversight of program/industry advisory boards.

    • Represent the program in campus meetings special events open houses and orientations.

    • Represent program in campus accreditation reviews and renewals.

  • Student Support

    • Act as the third line of support for student curriculum/faculty escalations (supporting Academic Lead and course Principal Instructor).

    • Serve as faculty sponsor for student-led events and networking opportunities.

  • Faculty Support

    • Recruit and vet qualified candidates for part-time faculty positions coordinate with Academic Lead for secondary interviews and to complete the hiring process with HR.

    • Join campus onboarding meetings for new faculty to provide a face for the program.


Service (10%)

  • Service work to support the mission and vision of the program College and University.

Professional Development/Scholarship (20%)

  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain currency and contribute to student learning in their field by promoting the dissemination of knowledge through scholarship/research/creative activity and/or professional development.

  • Canadian-based faculty are required to perform research and publish to satisfy program accreditation requirements in Canada including at least scholarly accomplishments each year.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator. Experience teaching at the masters level teaching and developing on ground and online courses and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:

A terminal degree from an accredited institution in AI computer science statistics analytics data science or a related field by appointment date

3 years of professional experience in advanced AI analytics or data science and familiarity with commonly used tools and techniques in analytics (R python Tableau Spark SQL etc.).

Knowledge about how to manage analyze communicate visualize and lead with artificial intelligence is a plus.

Experience teaching at the graduate level and innovative use of technology in support of assessment and learning

Excellent written and oral communication specifically with the ability to communicate technical concepts to novices and non-technical stakeholders.

Pay Range:

Assistant Teaching Professor: $101000 - $122000 CAD Associate Professor: $111000 - $135000 CAD Professor: $124000 - $140000 CAD

With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
