The Quality Assistant will assist the Quality Manager in assuming responsibility for the companys Quality Assurance standards food safety and security functions and ensure effective procedures are maintained in each area to meet customer BRC and statutory requirements.
- Conduct daily routine sample analyses using lab techniques and other instruments; following Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs). Record results generated from tests and communicate findings to Management.
- Focus on customer satisfaction and brand integrity by adhering to and promoting company policies and procedures regarding: Food Safety QA GMPs Health & Safety SSOPs and SOPs.
- Maintain sampling areas in a sanitary organized and safe condition cleaning and sterilizing equipment as required.
- Perform on-site product sensory evaluations (grading).
- Routine verification of all production paperwork and routine ATP and environmental testing.
- Aseptically collect samples and take swabs for analyses. Prepare and send out necessary samples for third party testing.
- Organize Quality records and files summarize data prepare and interpret reports for use by Management.
- Issue Certificates of Analysis (COAs) to customers for outgoing product. Review and approve COAs from suppliers for incoming ingredients etc.
- Perform verification on finished goods to ensure that each finished good meets positive release criteria as required.
- Place nonconforming materials/products On Hold as required maintain Hold/Release Logs assist in conducting investigations when necessary and authorize On Hold product to be released.
- Assist in the investigation of customer complaints and/or food safety and quality concerns under the direction of the QA Manager and report findings to applicable.
- Support execution of GMPs throughout the plant (i.e. performing environmental and hand swabbing).
- Assist with document control record retention and management of recipe/formula/deviation files and distribution.
- Retain finished good samples in an organized manner; purging when needed.
- Communicate and follow-up with key company contacts as to foster trust transparency and uphold the production of safe quality foods.
- Provide support before/at customer audits health department inspections trainings and consultations and ensure employees understand and comply with applicable standards
- Effectively communicate with department plant and company personnel to ensure effective departmental operations and processes.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Food Science Lab Science or related field is preferred or equivalent work history.
- 1-2 years of demonstrated work experience within a food science/food laboratory setting (dairy manufacturing desired).
- Working knowledge of various dairy analytical instruments.
- Working knowledge of British Retail Consortium (BRC) or Safe Quality Food (SQF) food safety standards.
- Knowledge of hazard analysis critical control points food safety and sanitation principles.
- Formal training regarding the principles of HACCP preferred. Experience with development and monitoring functions.
- Demonstration of excellent analytical skills accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task self-direct and self-motivate.
- Committed to food safety/quality and customer satisfaction.
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully both verbally and non-verbally.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to work in manufacturing environment which includes but not limited to: standing/walking on concrete noise changing temperatures (hot wet cold and humid) routine bending/stooping/twisting/pushing/pulling lifting 20-40 lbs. climbing stairs maneuvering around manufacturing equipment throughout shift.
- Working with sanitation chemicals wearing personal protective equipment and following approved chemical handling procedures.
- Physical Requirements: Sit 40% of the time walk 40% Stand 20% bend at waist 5 X per week squat 2 x per week Walk up and down stairs and over pipes 5 x per week lift 10 lbs. 2-3 x per week lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
- Mental Requirements: Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently. Be able to manage multiple projects. Ability to analyze data from lab results ability to trend data ability to trouble shoot issues that might arise such as (but not limited to) customer complaints environmental test results and internal audit results.
