Job Summary

Overview

The Editorial Intern will work alongside the Thomas Nelson Bibles team to play a key role in helping steward Bible projects at various stages of the publishing pipeline. They will assist with selecting and placing ancillary content editing content received from contributors preparing content for typesetting proofreading typeset content providing input on prospective future projects managing reprint corrections and engaging in other tasks as they arise.

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with the Thomas Nelson Bibles production process
  • Become familiar with the Thomas Nelson Bibles Style Guide The Chicago Manual of Style and The Christian Writers Manual of Style
  • Learn the various types of Bibles (e.g. Study Text Reference) common typesettings and layouts and common ancillary features
  • Learn and practice the various kinds of editorial work including content editing copyediting content proofreading and typesetting proofreading
  • Select ancillary Bible content drawing from existing content and content to be created
  • Place ancillary Bible content ensuring a logical placement and an even distribution
  • Prepare editorial files for the typesetting process
  • Work with the composition team to steward a Bible project throughout the typesetting process
  • Manage reprint corrections
  • Proofread existing ancillary content to affirm it is styled properly
  • Attend team meetings pub boards preproduction meetings and production meetings

Qualifications

  • Candidates who are available to work in a full-time capacity in 2026 or 2027 are eligible for this internship; open to rising seniors recent graduates masters students or entry level candidates with up to two years of work experience.
  • Candidates must be available to work 28 hours per week Monday through Thursday from June 8 to August 13 2026. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are mandatory in-office days at our Nashville headquarters while Mondays and Thursdays are remote workdays. Compensation for this internship is $18 per hour.

  • Ideal candidates are either currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from an undergraduate or masters program.
  • Candidates should be competent in Microsoft Word Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Teams
  • Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of the English language and grammar
  • Candidates should have strong project management and organizational skills and be able to work independently
  • Candidates with copyediting and proofreading experience are preferred
  • A passion for the Bible is highly valued!
