This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the assigned client(s) and project(s).

Organizational Position

Co. Job Title: Construction Engineer II*

Reports to: Project Manager or Quality Assurance Manager

*The company job title may differ from the job title on a specific project

Duties/Responsibilities

The position may be responsible for office and field duties related to construction office administration project coordination construction inspection and field documentation. Specific responsibilities to support the Project Manager and/or Quality Manager include:

  • Participate in subcontractor pre-installation meetings to review quality expectations and installation sequencing.
  • Collaborate with superintendents forepersons and subcontractors to ensure workmanship quality and consistent execution.
  • Perform regular field inspections of completed work to ensure it meets approved plans specifications and contractual requirements this could include MEP other building systems fire and life safety.
  • Identify document and track non-conforming work verify corrective actions and track resolutions to closure.
  • Create maintain or review any logs reports or other documentation to aid in project reporting and delivery.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of field quality practices by identifying recurring issues and recommend process changes.
  • Support turnover activities by verifying documentation completeness and system readiness.
  • Assure that all field reporting is an accurate documentation of activities on the required forms.
  • Engage with and/or be responsive to the client manage the clients expectations relative to the project and SQNs overall standing while maintaining a high level of professionalism and striving for the highest level of client satisfaction.Verify the contractors actual activities against their planned work.
  • Other duties as required by the project client or SQN business needs.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering Construction Management or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in engineering construction quality construction management or commissioning.
  • Proven experience inspecting completed work for compliance on commercial industrial or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated process execution skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Effective problem solving with ability to efficiently switch between tasks productively.
  • OSHA 30 certification required or willingness to complete once hired.
  • Valid drivers license required.
  • Knowledge of architectural structural civil and critical building systems is a plus.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification a plus.
  • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license a plus.

  • Maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling on uneven or slippery surfaces
  • Move your body to get low to the ground if necessary

  • Able to be exposed to outdoor weather conditions throughout the year including extreme heat and cold
  • Able to work around noise and potentially hazardous materials
  • Able to work around moving objects and equipment while on a job site
  • Able to work in a confined space
