We are seeking Bambara Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Bambara a Mande language widely spoken in Mali and across West Africa is a rare but critical language often needed in asylum and immigration interviews.
Responsibilities
- Provide real-time Bambara English telephonic interpretation for USCIS officers applicants and stakeholders.
- Interpret accurately neutrally and professionally in immigration asylum and legal contexts.
- Adhere to USCIS/DHS interpreter ethics and confidentiality standards.
- Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge interpretation requests.
- Participate in training compliance refreshers and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications
- Native or near-native fluency in Bambara and English.
- 2 years of professional interpreting experience (immigration asylum community NGO or government preferred).
- Strong knowledge of interpreter ethics confidentiality and cultural awareness.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to remain accurate under pressure.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
