Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery improvement research and education. We are the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne from ambulatory to inpatient and home and community-based services. On 1 January 2026 Alfred Health will come together with Kooweerup Regional Health Service Peninsula Health Bass Coast Health and Gippsland Southern Health Service to create Bayside Health a newly merged health service with more than 22000 employees caring for a community of over 1.2 million Victorians. The new health service will provide people with the best possible care with services that support them throughout their lives. The merger will also strengthen our workforce providing new training education and career opportunities. Subject to final approval on 1 January 2026 all employees from the five health services will transfer to Bayside Health.
About Our Team
The Alfred Pathology Service (APS) is key to providing integrated and timely diagnostic capabilities as part of the largest public pathology laboratory network in Victoria.
Alfred Health supports the local community while addressing complex state-wide needs including trauma organ transplantation and HIV/AIDS diagnostics. APS conducts all pathology testing for multiple hospitals offering a comprehensive range of services through five specialized units: Anatomical Pathology Clinical Biochemistry Haematology Microbiology and Human Molecular Pathology.
APS is committed to education and professional development providing excellent learning opportunities for students and clinicians. Staff benefit from supportive leaders state-of-the-art equipment and the chance to engage in interesting and complex work. The service also collaborates with various research institutions.
Alfred Health and Monash Health have established a partnership and are deliveringpathology services at Western Health (WH) which includes collection centres branch laboratories at New Footscray Hospital and Sunshine Hospital and point-of-care services. We are working in partnership to ensure we meet future demands and continue to provide high quality pathology services for our patients and the community across both health services.
Position Summary
The Anatomical Pathology Unit is located at The New Footscray Hospital campus. The Unit comprises ofHistopathology Cytopathology. The Unit processes and reports a broad range of diagnostic role requires the incumbent to work primarily in the Histopathology and Cytology section applying abroad range of histological and Cytological techniques at the New Footscray Hospital Laboratory and frozensections at the Sunshine Laboratory. This position will require rotations to the Prahran laboratory especiallyfor training and continuous professional development purposes. The role will require participation in arotating roster Monday to Friday between the hours of 06:30 to 18:00 hours.
