Molecular Pathology and Clinical Cytogenetics Faculty - Open Rank

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin is inviting applications for an Associate Director of Cytogenetics and Molecular Pathology faculty position at a rank that is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will help lead the molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics initiatives within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinical colleagues in Pathology as well as with the community at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin to help enhance the utilization of precision medicine assays to improve population health and wellness in the patients seeking care at Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Interpret and report clinical molecular genetic test results for oncology and inherited diseases.
  2. Interpret and report clinical cytogenetic test results (chromosome analysis and fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis) for oncology and inherited diseases.
  3. Enhance laboratory procedures and systems to assure high quality accurate clinical test results are produced by the laboratory at all times.
  4. Assist in troubleshooting of technical laboratory procedures and provide technical support to laboratory staff; oversee the laboratory Quality Management plan and ensure laboratory maintains plan compliance.
  5. Consult with physicians genetic counselors and other clinical staff regarding technical specifications of tests. Answer questions and engage in discussions regarding the interpretation of patient results.
  6. Ensure continuous compliance with regulatory agencies (CAP CLIA) and regulatory guidelines; assume a lead role during inspections (internal and external).
  7. Provide scientific and clinical assessment of emerging technologies and techniques through remaining current on scientific literature to improve current test methodologies and to develop new test offerings. Approve test method selection and validation plans.
  8. Ensure appropriate SOPs are in place per regulatory requirements perform annual review and approval of all laboratory SOPs.
  9. Engage in scientific presentations at national meetings contribute to peer-reviewed publications and actively participate in professional organizations and societies.
  10. Participate in education of pathology trainees and medical students.
  11. Facilitate the integration of laboratory genetics and genomics curriculum into resident and fellowship training.

  • Thorough understanding of regulatory requirements as they relate to clinical laboratory (CLIA/CAP) operations

  • Candidate must work well with other industry thought-leaders scientists strategic partners the broader scientific / medical community.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: MD or equivalent
  • Certifications/Licenses:
    • Board certified or board eligible in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
    • Board certified or board eligible in Molecular Genetic Pathology.
    • Must be eligible for an unrestricted Wisconsin Medical License.
    • The ideal candidate will have experience in both cytogenetic tests and a variety of molecular approaches.
  • Experience:All levels of experience will be considered but 3-5 years of experience in a CLIA/CAP clinical molecular genetics laboratory and cancer cytogenetics laboratory is preferred.
