Position Overview:
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients in the Women and Family Center including labor delivery post-delivery post-surgical newborn nursery special care nursery and pediatrics. The RN works under the supervision of the Director of Women and Family Center performing procedures within the scope of practice as set by the Iowa State Board of Nursing.
Regular attendance is an essential function of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care in labor and delivery post-partum pediatrics and nursery settings.
- Conduct physical and psychosocial assessments.
- Develop update and individualize Nursing Care Plans with patients and families.
- Implement and evaluate Nursing and Medical Plans of Care.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams for holistic care.
- Acknowledge physician orders via computerized entry system.
- Document all care and patient responses in the EMR.
- Administer medications according to the 5 rights of medication administration.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork and critical thinking skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Prior Maternal Child or Medical/Surgical nursing preferred (not required).
- Strong organizational skills; ability to manage fluctuating patient census.
- Effective communication and patient-focused customer service.
Education & Licensure:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current Iowa RN license or compact state nursing license with Iowa practice eligibility.
- Current BCLS certification (required).
- NRP certification within 12 months (training provided).
- Basic fetal monitoring course within 12 months.
Must-Haves
- Graduate of a Registered Nursing program.
- Current Iowa RN license or compact license allowing practice in Iowa.
- Current BCLS certification.
