About the role:
The Manager of Internal Audit plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the Companys governance risk management and internal control processes. Responsible for planning executing and reporting on operational financial regulatory and compliance audits this role provides critical assurance to executive leadership and the Board of addition to managing audit engagements the Manager offers proactive advisory support on internal control matters fosters a culture of continuous improvement and ensures full compliance with Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards. Through close collaboration with Risk Legal Compliance and other key stakeholders the Manager strengthens the overall control environment supports strategic objectives and enhances the Companys resilience against emerging risks. The role demands a high level of technical proficiency leadership analytical capability and the ability to influence positive change across the business.
Responsibilities:
Audit Planning and Execution:
- Plan scope and execute operational financial regulatory and compliance audits based on risk assessments.
- Perform detailed evaluations of business processes to assess the adequacy of controls identify risks and recommend improvements.
- Conduct independent testing and analysis to verify the effectiveness of internal controls and operational procedures.
- Prepare clear concise working papers that support audit findings and recommendations in line with IIA standards.
Reporting and Governance:
- Draft and present comprehensive audit reports with actionable insights to Executive Management the Audit Committee and the Board.
- Monitor and follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Provide regular updates to management on emerging risks and internal control weaknesses.
- Support the preparation of the Internal Audit annual plan and risk assessment.
Advisory and Risk Management:
- Act as a trusted advisor on internal control risk management and compliance matters.
- Provide input into the development of risk mitigation strategies for key projects and initiatives.
- Evaluate the design and effectiveness of internal controls during major system implementations and business transformations.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with Risk Management Legal Compliance Finance and Operations to ensure alignment on control frameworks.
- Build strong consultative relationships with divisional heads and senior leadership.
- Liaise with external auditors during statutory audits to ensure coordinated audit efforts.
Leadership Development and Best Practice:
- Mentor and develop Internal Audit team members providing feedback coaching and career development support.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance internal audit methodologies tools and reporting processes.
- Research and remain current on new regulations industry standards and emerging risks relevant to the business.
- Lead or participate in special investigations fraud reviews and ad hoc projects as assigned by senior management.
Continuous Monitoring and Compliance:
- Implement a continuous auditing programme using data analytics where possible.
- Promote awareness of risk management and internal controls across the organisation.
- Ensure that all audit activities are conducted ethically objectively and independently.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Business Administration or similar.
- CA CMA CGA designation (or equivalent) highly preferred.
- 57 years of auditing experience within insurance or financial services.
- Comprehensive knowledge of risk-based auditing and internal control evaluation.
- Proven experience adhering to and applying IIA standards effectively.
