As a Senior Applied Scientists within the Pricing Traffic & Trading Tech organization at Zalando we are dedicated to utilizing cutting-edge research to build and refine the scientific models that optimize key commercial decisions for our 10Bn business.

Our team has developed a bespoke experimentation platform that allows us to rigorously test improvements to our core pricing algorithms and conduct large-scale experiments on the effectiveness of commercial incentives like vouchers.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced scientist to join us in a role with a dual focus: enhancing the foundations of our scientific decision-making while also applying those foundations to critical business problems.

WED LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

Lead the evolution of our experimentation platform. You will research and implement advanced methodologies in causal inference and experimental design to improve our platforms capabilities. You will not only enhance the toolset but also empower other teams to run more robust and insightful experiments.
Drive voucher optimization. You will utilize our experimentation platform and your modelling expertise to build a sophisticated optimization product for vouchers. This involves designing strategies for both customer targeting (who should get a voucher) and assortment selection (on which products should it be valid).
Develop state-of-the-art machine learning and econometric models. You will take full ownership of developing models that allow us to understand the true incremental impact of our interventions and you will collaborate with our ML engineers to bring your models to production.
Champion scientific excellence and innovation. You will empower the team to stay up-to-date with the latest research in relevant fields like causal machine learning econometrics and optimization. You will be responsible for translating theoretical advances into practical applications that create tangible business value.
Mentor and coach fellow scientists. As a senior member of the team you will provide feedback and support to your junior colleagues helping them to develop into outstanding researchers and practitioners.

WED LOVE TO MEET YOU IF:

Strong academic background in economics econometrics statistics or a STEM field (preferably PhD).
Strong expertise in experimentation and causal inference.
Good understanding of economic concepts.
Experience related to pricing and e-commerce is a plus.
Strong experience with Python in applied context - experience with relevant data and ML frameworks (e.g. PySpark lightgbm sklearn PyTorch )
Experience building machine learning models and to solve real world business problems.
Experience in translating research into applications with a good balance between scientific rigour and business relevance.
Experience working with customer level data is a plus.
Ability to collaborate with external stakeholders and to clearly communicate results to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
Self-driven intrinsic motivation for result implementation (action orientation).
