Founded in 1891 by a group of visionary volunteers The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) is the Massachusetts premier conservation and preservation organization. The Trustees preserves for public use and enjoyment properties of exceptional scenic historic and ecological value in properties are open to all and we thrive by involving as many people as possible in all that we do. We aim to protect special places for future generations to enjoy in perpetuity and have helped protect more than 50000 acres including 27000 acres on more than 120 reservations that are open to the public. What Youll Do:
Your Impact:
As the Campaign Director at Trustees youll join a seasoned team of development professionals as we embark on an ambitious 5-year fundraising campaign. Your coordination and leadership will help we meet our 9-figure fundraising goal ensuring the future success of the organization and its recently released strategic plan.
The Role:
As theCampaign Directoryoull be responsible for the planning coordination and management of thefor everyone forevercampaign a comprehensive nine-figure fundraising initiative engaging individuals foundations corporations and government partners. The campaign has been developed in partnership with CCS Fundraising and has entered an active implementation phase. As Campaign Director you will inherit a robust campaign framework and be responsible for adapting and executing it in collaboration with internal and external partners.
Youll take on a role that is both strategic and tactical requiring a collaborative leader who can drive campaign momentum deepen donor engagement and ensure operational excellence. Youll also work closely with internal teams Board members and external stakeholders to meet ambitious fundraising goals and advance The Trustees mission through its new strategic plan.
Specifically youll be responsible for:
Campaign Leadership
- Lead the implementation and daily management of the campaign guiding all phases from the leadership and major gifts stages through the public launch and to a successful completion.
- Foster a disciplined goal-oriented campaign environment grounded in fundraising best practices with clear benchmarks and accountability.
Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies for individual donors foundations and other key stakeholders.
- Establish solicitation priorities and support staff Board members and volunteers in donor engagement and solicitations.
Prospect Management
- Oversee prospect research and develop detailed donor profiles and solicitation strategies.
- Manage a comprehensive donor pipeline and lead regular review meetings with frontline fundraisers to ensure consistent progress.
Campaign Operations
- Maintain key campaign tools including an annotated table of gifts a catalog of recognition opportunities and a list of funding priorities.
- In partnership with the Director of Development Operations provide timely campaign updates performance metrics and strategic analysis to the Campaign Committee Board of Directors and Executive Leadership.
Donor Stewardship & Communications
- Collaborate with the Director of Development Operations to ensure timely and meaningful donor acknowledgments and stewardship.
- Draft and manage donor communications including letters emails briefings and campaign-related materials.
Marketing & Collateral Development
- Oversee the creation and production of campaign print and digital collateral in partnership with the Chief Development Officer and Chief Marketing Officer.
- Produce campaign reports brochures and other communications as needed.
Events & Engagement
- Plan and execute campaign cultivation and recognition events in collaboration with the Director of Development and Governance Events.
Team Leadership & Culture
- Contribute to the leadership of a high-performing Development team and help foster a strong organization-wide culture of philanthropy that extends beyond the campaign.
Other Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Development Officer.
This is a full-time exempt five-year position reporting directly to Chief Development Officer.
Requirements
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience with a strong record in capital campaigns major gifts and individual givingideally in land conservation environmental or cultural sectors.
- Proven ability to manage and develop campaign budgets donor pipelines and high-quality donor-facing materials.
- Skilled in using CRM databases (e.g. Salesforce) for moves management campaign reporting and data-driven strategy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience crafting compelling donor communications and campaign collateral.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with Board members donors volunteers staff and consultants.
- Highly organized and deadline-driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based tools (e.g. Asana Mailchimp Eventbrite).
- Demonstrated integrity discretion and commitment to donor stewardship and customer service.
- Self-motivated adaptable and team-oriented with a passion for The Trustees mission and advancing its impact through philanthropy.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Current authorization to work in the United States a candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
- A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.
