Job Description

Position Summary:

When readiness is critical and downtime is costly the Sustainment & Readiness Sector at the University of Dayton Research Institute partners with military industry commercial and academic partners to solve complex sustainment challenges and to rapidly advance next-generation solutions. We are nationally recognized ranked number one in materials research and number three for sponsored research and development in industrial and manufacturing engineering for our ability to accelerate technology transition and deploy advanced manufacturing technologies at the speed of need.

Our team combines decades of expertise with cutting-edge technologies including additive/advanced manufacturing advanced repair processes post-processing non-destructive engineering advanced composites corrosion prevention and coatings lasers and automation. We build strong foundations for emerging technologies by developing and optimizing materials delivering targeted training and supporting seamless integration into your operations. Our capabilities are part of a broad portfolio that extends across defense aerospace automotive and the medical sectors.

We invite qualified candidates to apply for the position of Group Leader of Advanced Manufacturing Materials in our Sustainment & Readiness Sector. The Advanced Manufacturing Materials group has approximately 20 employees located in Dayton OH and Warner Robins GA supporting annual revenues of over $10M. Technical focus areas include advanced manufacturing process development and statistical process control material characterization and property development nondestructive evaluation engineering specification development and sustainment application engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:

R3:
1. Bachelors degree in relevant engineering field from a college university or program accredited by a recognized U.S. institutional accrediting organization
2. Experience leading technical team(s)
3. Eight years of directly related experience with material characterization and property development including method selection or development data collection and analysis
4. Eight years of experience with powder characterization and mechanical test methods
5. Eight years of experience planning and conducting Design of Experiments
6. Experience developing material properties for product design engineering
7. Broad experience in a manufacturing environment and with a variety of traditional and advanced manufacturing processes
8. Experience with heat treatment techniques
9. Understanding of nondestructive inspection techniques and their application in advanced manufacturing process development and control
10. Experience developing and implementing operational procedures process control plans and process improvements in compliance with ISO 9001 or AS9100 certified quality management system
11. Experience qualifying materials and processes for aerospace applications
12. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills with coworkers and clients at all levels
13. Demonstrated success leading collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team
14. Demonstrated success managing customer relationships
15. Demonstrated ability to manage financial/cost data associated with budgets
16. Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

An R4 must meet all R3 minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below:
R4:
1. 12 years of directly related experience in materials engineering
2. 12 years of experience developing material properties for product design engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

R3:
1. Advanced degree in relevant technical engineering or management field from a college university or program accredited by a recognized U.S. institutional accrediting organization
2. Eight years of experience developing material properties for product design engineering
3. Experience supervising laboratory operations and diverse team(s) of professional employees
4. Demonstrated competence performing statistical analysis
5. Experience leading equipment specification procurement installation and implementation

In addition to those listed for R3 R4 preferred qualifications include:
R4:
1. Minimum five years of experience supervising laboratory operations and diverse team(s) of professional employees
2. More than 12 years of directly related experience in materials engineering
3. More than 12 years of experience developing material properties for product design engineering
