Teacher First Compensation Model
At Kairos we invest in teachers first. Our Teacher First Compensation (TFC) model provides transparent performance-based pay that rewards professional growth collaboration and classroom impactnot tenure.
Annual Salary Range (2025-26)
  • Professional: $60000
  • Advanced: $70000
  • Exemplary: $80000
  • $3000 signing bonus
Salary bands are determined through Kairos TFC performance framework and are reviewed annually through individualized growth and feedback cycles.

Position Summary

Kairos Academies is seeking a hardworking culture-building student-focused and data-driven Home Economics Teacher. At Kairos all teachers are leadersyoull not only teach a wide range of essential life skills but also serve in a whole-school service role (e.g. Hospitality Lead Wellness Lead) that empowers students to connect classroom learning with real-world application.

Through strong relationships data-informed instruction and coaching-based mentorship Kairos teachers empower students to take ownership of their growth.

Key Responsibilities

Rigorous Instruction and Curriculum
  • Design and implement engaging standards-aligned units across core areas of Home Economics:
    • Culinary & Nutrition: recipe reading meal planning nutrition food safety
    • Textiles & Design: sewing clothing construction repairs fabric care
    • Family & Child Development: child care developmental milestones family dynamics
    • Health & Hygiene: wellness first aid grooming personal safety
    • Consumer & Financial Literacy: budgeting saving credit career readiness consumer awareness
    • Housing & Interior Design: household management cleaning organization design basics
    • Broader Life Skills: etiquette hospitality sustainability civic responsibility social skills
  • Integrate project-based and hands-on learning experiences that connect academics with practical applications.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Data-Driven Practice
  • Assess student learning using performance tasks projects and authentic assessments.
  • Analyze student progress to inform instruction and adjust supports.
  • Provide clear actionable feedback to help students build mastery.
Student and Family Engagement
  • Communicate student progress and next steps via email calls and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Provide students and families with strategies to extend life skills learning beyond the classroom.
Mentoring
  • Facilitate student Circle once a week and participate in staff Circle once a week.
  • Monitor your mentor groups academic and behavior progress; support students in setting and reaching ambitious academic and character goals.
  • Serve as a direct point-of-contact for Kairos families to share school-wide information and student support updates.
Whole School Leadership
  • Serve in a whole-school service role (e.g. Tutoring Lead Wellness Lead Event Hospitality Lead) that drives school-wide culture and student success.
Driver Goals
  • Proficiency on course-aligned performance tasks: 60%
  • Growth on project rubrics and student reflections: 70%
  • Mentoring Participation: 75%
  • On-Track Gradient Classes: 85%

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelors degree in Family & Consumer Sciences Education Home Economics or related field; Masters preferred
  • Valid Missouri Substitute Certification
  • Demonstrated passion for student growth and development
    Strong interpersonal communication and classroom management skills
  • Eligible to work for any employer in the U.S.; clear criminal background check
Preferred:
  • Valid Missouri Family & Consumer Sciences teaching certification (or willingness to certify ASAP)
  • 3 years of teaching Home Economics or related subjects at the middle or high school level
  • Familiarity with project-based learning personalized instruction or executive-function coaching.
Technology and Safety
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office student information systems and instructional technology tools
  • Commitment to classroom and equipment safety protocols
Work Schedule & Environment
  • MondayFriday 7:30 AM 4:30 PM (hours may vary by grade level and/or WSS Role)
  • Occasional evening and weekend events (family nights showcases performances)
  • Fast-paced collaborative student-centered environment
  • On-site role at Kairos Academies St. Louis MO

Compensation & Benefits
