Job Description

This position works independently at a journey-level and in small teams following direction from a supervisor or lead. Responsibilities include patching painting plastering and taping drywall as well as painting with brushes rollers and spray equipment. Work also involves power washing and sealing exterior surfaces trim painting and other related tasks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Painting & Finishing

  • Apply primers sealers undercoats and finish paints using brush roller or spray equipment
  • Paint interior and exterior surfaces of buildings machinery piping and floors
  • Mix and match stains to existing woodwork cabinets and furniture
  • Strip and refinish woodwork cabinets and furniture

Drywall & Plaster Work

  • Patch and finish gypsum wallboard and plaster
  • Tape and texture new wallboard for seamless integration

Equipment Maintenance & Operation

  • Clean and maintain painting tools including brushes rollers and spray equipment
  • Disassemble and reassemble both airless and conventional spray systems
  • Operate and maintain sandblasting and pressure washing equipment

Transportation & Site Logistics

  • Drive service truck to transport equipment and personnel to WWU job sites
  • Load and unload materials and supplies efficiently

Work Platform Setup

  • Install and remove scaffolding swing stages ladders ladder jacks planks boom trucks and other elevated work platforms

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install a wide range of interior and exterior signage including directional branding and safety signs
  • Perform carpet installation with attention to layout precision seam alignment and adhesive application
  • Set interior and exterior tile in bathrooms courtyards and other areas ensuring proper surface preparation spacing and grouting
  • Install custom decals on vehicles maintaining alignment adhesion quality and visual consistency
Required Qualifications
  • Four years of journey level experience in a skilled painting trade in a commercial or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and plans.
  • Read and understand written information and instructions.
  • Manage time well and work under pressure situations with tight schedules and deadlines to complete projects.
  • Demonstrated experience or ability to work in commercial and institutional settings.
  • Must be knowledgeable of tools used in trade.
  • Willing to certify in asbestos abatement.
  • Ability to read and understand written information and instructions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to maintain and use hand and power tools safely as required for the trade.
  • Experience working in sensitive situations such as: operational offices classrooms dorm rooms rest rooms etc.
  • Valid drivers license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work in order to drive a state-owned vehicle for travel to work locations.
  • Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to perform daily work tasks independently under limited supervision.
  • Possess technical accuracy and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work with computer hardware and software required to track work orders and record time worked.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with students staff and faculty at all levels of the organization and in contacts with the public.
  • Ability to manage time well and work under pressure situations with tight schedules and deadlines to complete projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) rules and regulations standard job safety rules and proper use of a face respirator.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in installing carpet cove base and vinyl tile including safe removal and preparation with self-leveling materials.
  • Demonstrated skills and abilities in tile setting for interior spaces like bathrooms and outdoor areas such as courtyards.
