    Family Resource Specialist

    Summary/Objective

    The Family Resource Specialist (FRS) is responsible for reviewing hospital records in accordance with confidentiality policies and interviewing/conducting the Parent Survey with parents (prenatally and/or immediately after the birth of their child) to determine eligibility for home visitation services. If the family doesnt enter the program the FRS will make referrals to the appropriate community-based agencies depending on the familys needs.

    Essential Functions
    • Screen referrals from area hospital WIC medical providers other agencies and self referrals.
    • Attend local events/meetings to inform individuals about our services
    • Schedule assessments to be completed prenatal or within two weeks of the birth of child
    • Collect income verification or necessary information to determine program eligibility
    • Administer Parent Survey to potential clients that have screened positive
    • Report to designated monthly referral agencies and keep up to date on services they offer as well as reminding them of HF services.
    • Maintain social media page by keeping it updated and doing at least weekly posts as well as interacting and maintaining participate page.
    • Maintain pantry by getting items as needed and keeping list updated and letting other staff know what is available.
    • Able to seek new resources out in area and connect with them when assessments are low
    • Provide outreach to families who have screened positive and are not responding for up to 45 days
    • Complete assessment documentation in the database and submit for review to supervisor within 2 working days; once family is assigned touch base with assigned worker to review family summary
    • Complete all necessary paperwork and data entry in a timely manner (within two weeks)
    • Administer the Interpersonal Violence questionnaire as required
    • Administer the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Screen as required
    • Mandated reporting of suspected child abuse and/or neglect
    • Receives 15 hours of ongoing training to support professional development
    • Coordinate with Supervisor to have 2 assessments observed annually
    • Participate in and complete necessary tasks to get monthly groups ready
    • Participate in other job duties as assigned or needed
    • Offer staff support

    Supervisory Responsibility
    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment
    This job operates in a professional office environment including area hospitals. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    1. Climb and maneuver steps in narrow hallways and in small rooms.
    2. Tolerate strong odors.
    3. Lift and physically manipulate up to 25 pounds
    4. Read printed material in poorly lighted areas.
    5. Operate common standard office equipment.
    6. Discern and evaluate sounds interactions and movements in multiple situations in order to determine the potential for child abuse and neglect.
    7. Use senses of sight hearing and smell to evaluate the safety of the environment for children.
    8. May be subjected to infectious diseases substances and contaminated articles (bed bugs lice etc).
    9. May be exposed to animals while at clients home.

    Travel
    Travel within Adams County is expected for this position including visiting with clients in area hospitals and in their home. Travel may also be required for trainings out of County including Core.

    Required Education and Experience

    1. Associates Degree in Child Development human development early education human services and/or social work
    2. Experience in working with or providing services to children 0-3 preferably developmentally appropriate and their parents.
    3. Must be agreeable to attend 130 hours of Healthy Families Training within six months of their date of hire which may be out of town.
    4. Experience and willingness to work with the culturally diverse populations present among our Target Population.
    5. An ability to establish trusting relationships
    6. Acceptance of individual differences
    7. Knowledge of infant and child development
    8. Open to reflective practice
    9. Willingness to have new staff shadow


    Preferred Education and Experience
    Infant mental health endorsement preferred
    Bachelors Degree in Human Services Social Work Early Education Child Development or directly related field.
    Bi-lingual preferred
