Assistant Bursar

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Bursar is an entry-level salaried accounting position responsible for supporting the Bursar in execution and coordination of processes related to student billing receivables and payment functions for Spalding University.

The successful candidate will possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles accounting methods and terms and the ability to apply those to an academic setting will demonstrate strong customer service skills and will be highly detail oriented.

Salary for this full-time position is $40000 yearly with a comprehensive benefits package

Qualifications

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare bank deposits for all cash receipt items collected by Bursars Office and Financial Aid and apply payments to student accounts.
  • Prepare and post all student payments and deposits from multiple sources and submit related Journal entries.
  • Enter book vouchers in Akademos system approve invoices for processing.
  • Process voided and returned check payments and apply transfers and credits on student accounts and post miscellaneous fees to student accounts.
  • Prepare monthly A/R reconciliations of Third-Party Account Akademos Book Voucher and Trade Payables accounts.
  • Review and post Financial Aid transmittals and assist Bursar with the annual financial audit.
  • Respond to student requests for information related to their individual student account and coordinate and monitor student employer reimbursement program.
  • Assist Bursar as needed in processing student refunds follow-up on unclaimed refunds distribution of annual 1098-T forms and other duties as assigned.
  • Track all approved Spalding Employee Tuition Remission Forms and coordinate the processing of educational benefits for eligible employees with the Payroll Accountant (Graduate Remission taxable portion) and Financial Aid (posting the remission to A/R) staff.
  • Promote and support the mission and vision of Spalding University and adhere to the University policies procedures and compliance guidelines.

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles accounting methods and terms and the ability to apply those to an academic setting.
  • Capacity to analyze and discuss components of student accounts and general ledger accounts.
  • Ability to access information from a variety of different sources.
  • Professional demeanor; ability to foster positive communication with students administrators faculty and staff.
  • Strong customer service skills; capacity to handle requests in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills with a strong command of the English language.
  • Must be able to interpret and communicate University policies and processes related to student accounts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in matters relating to student privacy and release of information.
  • Experience with word processing and data entry and in using various programs within the Windows operating system: E-mail calendar functions Microsoft Word Excel and PowerPoint.

INTERRELATIONS

  • Daily contact with administration faculty staff and students.
  • Some contact with the general public.
  • Must have an appreciation and respect for diverse populations.
