Job Summary

Summary
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating phlebotomy procedures within a healthcare facility. This role is also responsible for serving as a laboratory liaison to patients nursing personnel and staff and assures excellence in quality and safety of blood collection and analysis.

Essential Functions
-Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
-Ensures accurate patient identification quality specimen labeling processing handling and transportation of specimens.
-May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
-Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
-May assume charge responsibilities or other tasks from the Lead Phlebotomist as assigned.
-Oversees staff training and competency assessments ensuring proper documentation.
-Troubleshot complex issues in collaboration with other departments and reviewed quality control and reports as assigned.
-Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
-Works fluently with computer programs and systems and complies with HIPAA regulations.
-Performs other tests administration and specimen collection as assigned.


Qualifications

EducationHigh School Diploma or Equivalent requiredCan this role accept experience in lieu of a degreeNoLicenses and CredentialsPhlebotomy Technician National Certification - Generic - HR Only required Class D Passenger Vehicle Drivers License State License - Generic - HR Only preferredExperienceExperience in phlebotomy 3-5 years requiredKnowledge Skills and Abilities- Demonstrates proficiency in proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens including correct tube selection volume and stability requirements. - Possesses good written and oral communication skills the ability to prioritize work manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects. - Superior customer service skills with the ability to show empathy and respect for patients privacy and autonomy. - Demonstrates complex problem-solving skills outside of everyday occurrences and is proficient in downtime procedures and protocols. - May specialize in a specific process patient population or testing type. - Works independently and collaborates effectively within a team actively partnering with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others experiences and perspectives.
