About the Role:

This position performs a variety of highly skilled journey-level workthat isconsidered mission criticalin the support ofoperationsby constructing troubleshootingmaintainingand conducting preventive maintenance programs on a wide variety ofinstrumentation and controlsat a wastewater treatment facility includingall collectionpumpingand regulating stations. This role with a focus on SCADA programming and maintenanceworksboth independently and in collaboration with other instrument techs skilledtradesand plant operations staff.Our goal isto meet the NPDES National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permitin the water treatment system.To ensure a safe work environmentour crew membersuseappropriate PPEand proper Lock-Out Tag Out procedures around electrical mechanical and environmental hazards. We alsoprovide training to workin Permit-Required Confined Spaces.Our group supports many new Capital projects that update and replace ourcontrol systems andwastewater infrastructure.

The Instrument Crew is an integral part of the maintenance group and along with operations our focus is the treatment ofwastewater. We protect public health and enhance the environment by collecting and cleaning wastewater while recovering valuable resources for a healthy Puget Sound region.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Perform preventative maintenance modifications upgrades analysis and diagnostics on DCS SCADA PLCs SLCs HMIS telemetry and networking with proprietary protocols. Apply electronic theory digitalelectronicsand PID control strategies.
  • Troubleshoot repair calibrate andmaintainallelectronic pneumatic and hydraulic instrumentation control and monitoring systems.
  • Work with operations personnel engineers and suppliers to explain the function of processes and procedures needed for the operation of new equipment.
  • Assist in inspection of instrumentation installed by contractorsas well aswitnessingand assessingloop commission testing.Reviewmodifyand updatedrawingstoconform with established plant standards.
  • Make recommendations onpurchasingsparesand inventory requirements for all instrument related equipment

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills

Qualifications You Bring:

  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or two years of technicalschooling in instrumentation and/or theequivalent related experience.
  • 2 years of industrial experience at the journey level as an instrument technician.
  • 2 yearsDCS / SCADAprogramming.
  • PLC troubleshooting and programming.
  • Ability to read adapt andmodifyblueprints and shop drawings.

Required License:
  • A valid unencumbered Washington State Drivers License

It Would be Great if You Also Bring:
  • Certificate in instrumentationand control

  • Programming experience with Ovation/ Emersoncontrols

  • Allen Bradley PLC and panel-view programming experience

  • Device-NET experience

  • Telemetry experience

  • Wastewater experience.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions:

  • Work Location: Onsite at the South Treatment Plant -1200 Monster Rd SW Renton WA 98057
  • Work Schedule:This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
    • The position requires the ability to work all shift schedules and required to report to work during adverse and inclement weather conditions and be on a rotating call list after a 9-month probationary period
  • Union Representation:This position is represented by S.E.I.U. 925 (Wastewater Treatment Division).
  • Physical Requirement:Incumbents perform fieldwork at a wastewater treatment plant and associated off-site facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds work in confined spaces kneel crawl walk and climb using ladders catwalks and stairways work indoor and outdoor in open tanks and vaults and around noxious odors and high noise levels.
