Position Summary: Reporting to the Clinical Supervisor and Mental Health Unit Chief the Mental Health Clinician delivers quality behavioral health care to incarcerated adult men at Rikers Island. The clinician is responsible for mental health evaluations crisis intervention ongoing assessments disposition planning and group and individual therapies as part of an interdisciplinary correctional care team.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct mental health evaluations crisis interventions assessments follow-up care and determine appropriate treatment plan and disposition for patients.
Provide ongoing coordination with Reentry Social Workers and other institutional programs to support effective discharge planning.
Collaborate with the Department of Correction to ensure proper patient housing treatment disposition and access to services.
Lead therapeutic groups on mental health observation or other assigned units and participate in rounds case conferences treatment planning and psychological testing as assigned.
Supervise social work interns or student volunteers when appropriate.
Complete all necessary documentation statistical reports and maintain accurate patient records in accordance with regulations.
Adhere to all required clinical supervision and professional development standards meeting with the Clinical Supervisor weekly.
Perform additional duties assigned by the Unit Chief Assistant Unit Chief or Clinical Supervisor.
Skills & Preferred Experience
Experience in assessment and treatment of adults with behavioral problems substance use histories and severe mental illness preferred.
Inpatient or correctional behavioral health experience preferred.
Strong communication crisis management and teamwork skills.
Required Education & Licensure
Masters degree in Social Work Psychology or closely related field.
Must hold a New York State license in Social Work Mental Health Counseling or Psychology.
